Can you help me to solve my problem:

- I've made conversion of high motion clip (only 2 seconde length) from DVD to divX5 (1500kbs 2-pass) with a very good result

- I've try to convert the same clip with several templates (including of course KVCD), bitrate (CQ, CQ_VBR, VBR up to 3000 kbs), combinaison of filters without any good result with MPEG-1 under TMPEG.

So what's the problem, is MPEG-1 so far from divX5?

2-pass on 2 seconds

What's the average bit rate of your 2 second clip? 1,500Kbps

The source clip is a DVD
- The average bitrate with DivX5 is 1500kbs
- The average bitrate with KVCDx3 MPEG-1 PAL is near 1950 kbs

Hi hachemoncourt,

Something went way wrong. At that bit rate, the MPEG-1 shouldn't look bad at all. Here's an example: http://www.kvcd.net/redplanet-cq78-faery-c3d.mpg
That's what the complete movie looks like on a single CD. The averege bit rate on that KVCDx3 clip is 884Kbps. So I believe something went wrong when you encoded your MPEG-1 clip.

Hi kwag and thanx for reply,

I've made complete conversion of lilo and stitch using KVCDx2 with a really great result except for specific high motion scenes.
During 1 or 2 seconds, the macroblocks cover all the screen!
So I've decided to make several tests to see if there is a way to get better result (including using kvcdx3)... with no success .

Is there some specific parameters to check?

I think that's because of the resolution. Try x3, it's almost indistinguishable from 704x480 but not as blocky because more bits can be spent describing motion.

Thanx SansGrip, but I don't think so,
I've try a lot of different settings without good results.

I've check the clip frame by frame :
- with divX5 there is no problem
- with MPEG-1 there is always macroblocks (at any resolution!)

I'll check the result on my tv screen to see if it's better...

Oh, you're watching them on your monitor... If you're making encodes to watch on your monitor, use XViD or DivX. If you're making encodes to watch on your TV, then judge the quality by how they look on the TV .

You are right SansGrip but the reason why I made all my tests is that I noticed scenes of bad quality on my TV.
After that, I made the comparison between divX and MPEG-1 on my monitor.
My first question was : is there a way to minimise differences between these two compression methods?

Hi hachemoncourt,

Have you tried the Red Planet sample I posted above on your standalone to see if there are visible blocks

Yes I tried it and the result is really impressive. No blocks, just the red planet .
is KVCD addictive?
