Can anyone help me...I need to convert an asf file and can't quite figure out how to do it...Tmpgenc doesn't support it and neither does bbmpeg. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks,
Greg

You must use the virtualdub version 1.03. That version supports the asf file. You can open it with virtual dub and then frameserve to tmpgenc.

I've been doing a little ASF -> kvcd recently and I've found that BlockBuster (filter not rental store ) is working magic on these very low quality, blocky asf's. Get ASFTools convert it to .avi (might need to reencode the asf with windows encoder 7.1)

I used a script with very heavy settings for blockbuster:
Code:
AviSource("C:\My Documents\video\movie.avi",false)
ConvertToYUY2()
ConvertFPS(29.976)
LegalClip()
BicubicResize(320, 208, 0, 0.6, 0, 6, 352, 228)
PixieDust()
BlockBuster(method="noise", detail_max=100, variance=6, seed=1)
AddBorders(16, 16, 16, 16)
LegalClip()
I converted another asf that was so blocky I used blockbuster with variance=16

The result is a video clip with lot's of noise instead of a screen full of blocks btw- the clip is about 10x worse than the Tom's Hardware- unlocking the Athlon vid For me, an extremely bad quality clip looks much better with evenly distributed noise than very pronounced blocks and very bad mosquito noise

You're 100% right ren
I rather look at a noisy analog satellite channel, than one of the cheap MPEG-2 low bit rate transcoders on C-Band. They look like caca

Maybe we can encode all our movies like that from now on
With a high value of noise with Blockbuster , then maybe I can start selling some glasses with built in "BlockBuster De-Noiser" filter to filter it out. Special $3.99 a pair ( OOPS I broke rule 000.11000 again )

Hey that just gave me an idea- how about a filter that will turn a clip into 3D like Jaws 3 or something (can't think of other ones) and we can watch them with paper 3d glasses with the red and blue lenses I'm not sure how those work- maybe a duplicate clip superimposed over another and slightly shifted over?

that's ok- just make sure you don't break rule #35AE21.FF1274658_a.29845S which is "Never, ever, ever, ever use beer and Coca-Cola in the same sentence."
I saw where someone broke this rule recently

Not kidding now Do you know the BOSE noise cancelling head phones ( Panasonic makes them too ). The principle is that the headphones reverse the external ambient noise 180 degrees. The effect is that it dampens the external noises, and you can listen to the music with less external noise. I gave my wife a set of those, and they are AWESOME. Some times , if I want to take a nap during the day when everything is noisy, I put them on and bye bye noise. It's like when you get in your car and shut the door. It's a big silence compared to the outside. Now just imagine this: We are generating noise on the video. If the eye glasses could do exactly the same as the audio headphones, but on the visual frequencies of noise, we would have the same effect. The noise would be cancelled, being a high frequency component, but the video would pass untouched. Thus eliminating the noise How's that for a new visual experience. BOSE Take note and do it
