That's the point! Here in Germany we only have PAL. I'm a DVD-chunky and I'm still now in holidays.
I'm little like Nero from the Matrix-Movies...

Yeah. What is CQMatic...

No cosmetic changes at all for BETA 3. Just functional changes. As I said before, it only failed once (longer prediction time) on one movie (k19). Other than that, it's solid as a rock :mrgreen:

Avalon 07-22-2003 03:08 AM

You said You calculated Your movies manually before You test it with CQMatic. Can You discribe me the way how You did this.
So we both have chosen the same way and I can tell You exactly if it works in PAL like You wanted it that it works so...

fn86 07-22-2003 06:03 AM

Well, this interests me too :P
...this manually calculating...

tigger 07-22-2003 08:26 AM

yeah!

first of all, super programm, its working fine!
but i think iŽve found a bug :(

í wanted to use it with Band Of Brothers part 4, which is ca. 57 min long, moviestacker gave me a average bitrate of over 1700. i used this values in cqmatic, but it didnŽt work correctly, it used 1 as cq value...

think it canŽt handle too short movies or to big average bitrates?

greetz

kwag 07-22-2003 09:04 AM

Thanks tigger,

I haven't tested on short movies, because I didn't have any on hand. I'm simulating that right now by creating a .d2v of 57 minutes, and testing the result. I'll fix that today ;)

Oh my god that .... IS.... SOOO.... SMART!!!!! I never even bothered to look at the 2nd tab in moviestacker. And I can even raise my 80min CD time to 81min 59sec to accomodate for overburning! This is BRILLIANT Kwag! As us chinese say "YOU SO SMAHT!" :D

One tiny question. What does the Authoring tab mean in mstacker? I'm confused why the only options are SVCDs

That's to take into consideration extra data size created by the authoring program to be used. I leave mine set to "vcdimager SVCD" :)

@tigger,

My 57 minute test worked flawlessly :!:

Here's part of my log, typed manually, because I still don't save the log :?

Krillenok 07-22-2003 10:07 AM

I'm getting the same results as bigggt. When chosing to make a prediction only. It makes a sample alright first. But keeps encoding the last frame until the total number of frames for the movie. So I get a sample having as many frames as the movie. But only about 1% is frames from the movie the other 99% is the last frame over ,over and over again???????????

tigger 07-22-2003 10:09 AM

hm....bizarre bizarre ;)

did you load your d2v in tmpeg , chose template , saved as text and started cqmatic with that one?
iŽll do another test later with such a short movie...

so iŽm testing with pal movies, iŽm converting one now, iŽll tell you later if it succeeded :)

bye :)

Try adding the line KillAudio() at the bottom of your script. That should cure this problem.

No. I created a .avs with the current optimal script, and I use MovieStacker to open the .d2v, and get the movie time and average bitrate. TMPEG will process the .avs. Not the .d2v directly :!:

Let me know :)

Edit: I'll try the same thing now, but directly opening the .d2v :idea:

I find that once you use CQMatic once, it checks on the Source Range option in tmpgenc but doesn't uncheck it upon completion. That means next time you load tmpgenc you'll have to restore cut editing and deselect source range before you save your next project file. To the person having problems with cqmatic try recreating your project file but this time ensure that everything in the source range field is set correctly.

That's because TMPEG remembers the last load. So it will always startup with the last settings. Just load any of your project files before creating a new one. That will clear all to default. I can't control that, because once CQMatic launches TMPEG for the final encode, CQMatic is done, and has no control on the external encoder. CQMatic never modifies your project files. It reads your project files, and creates a new temporary project file to work with. So your project files are all untouched, and you can load any of them to reset the settings :)

@tigger

Just finished a test reading the 57 minute film by processing the .d2v directly with TMPEG. It also worked flawlessly. Started with CQ of 50 (as set in my project ), then jumped to 90, then detected the high watermark MAX, and started full encode at CQ=90.

Thanx!
Arnet Tenra

Tried everything but this.
Now i'll give it atry.......

tigger 07-22-2003 11:14 AM

hmmm so iŽll try it in the evening :)

iŽm doing another test now, with a 91 min movie, i must see the whole thing in the end, but it looks now as it doesnŽt use the whole space of an 80 min cdr, it will be perhaps 700-730 mb file, although i checked 80min cdr in moviestacker, but iŽll test this one later :)

so again, thx a lot for cqmatic, greeeaaat :)

Of course :!: because you're encoding only the video stream :)
So the final file size will be video stream + audio stream, and that is equal to ~800MB.
You have to encode the audio separately, unless you have set audio on your project file.

hehe no no :)

i mean video + audio stream ,already muxxed will be perhaps 700-730 mb, the video stream alone perhaps 610 mb :)

but iŽll let you know when encoding is finished.

do you know why this is so?
should i use cdr 90 in moviestacker to get the avg bitrate, so it will fit to 80min cdr?
or is it a little bug in cqmatic (what i canŽt imagine :) )

thx :)

No, just keep the settings as you normally use them.
But please, when your encode ends, let me know the difference of the encoded video size and the one Moviestacker required :!:
Also, are you encoding NTSC or PAL :?:

Make sure you look over all the settings on the 2nd tab (audio and stuff) of moviestacker. I think it defaults for 160kbps audio, where maybe you planned on encoding at 128. And if you're muxing with bbmpeg make sure you select that and also MPEG-1 if that's how you're encoding. All these little things will affect the average bitrate on the 1st tab so make sure you set those parameters correctly! Don't forget to check whether you want 1 or 2 80min CD-Rs.

Once you have the correct avg bitrate, use this to calculate the MIN and MAX bitrate in tmpgenc (under CQ settings). You want to set your MAX to 2000 and your MIN to 0.57*(avg bitrate). And THEN save your project file for loading into CQmatic. I think doing all that will help make your prediction more accurate!

Good luck.

tigger 07-22-2003 12:38 PM

well, once again i tried to use a 57min movie with cqmatic, but without success :(

i also used .avs to load it in tmpeg, but it gives me a cq from 1 again..:(

tell you later about the encoding file sizes from video :)

bye

tigger 07-22-2003 12:46 PM

here what cqmatic says :

movie time : 54
avg bitrate 1854
pred. mode only
sample size 15113.93
executing pred. phase...
using cq of 50
encoder started
encoder end
difference = -1.5476664.000000
CQ BELOW WATERMARK set to
Using CQ OF 1.00
ecoder exited...

hope this helps to find a bug or sth...

hmmm
sorry but the error is still there
doenŽt do any file size preduction now , log :

movie time 55
avg bitrate 1800
full encode mode
prediction phase...
using cq value of 65
encoder started
encoder end
encoder set to full encode mode
full encode start
encoder exited
encoding complete...

sorry :(

Isn't TMPEG now running full encode, or you never saw TMPEG :?:

tigger 07-22-2003 02:11 PM

well...
tested it once again, set CQ value to 10 !

but once again, he did 1 prediction with 10 as cq, then he started directly encoding with cq=10, but thatŽs not possible!
the movie got 55 min or so :)

J-Wo 07-22-2003 02:16 PM

tigger did you make sure that you reset clip editing (via source range) in tmpgenc? and that source range was unchecked before saving your project file? That's screwed me up a couple times when testing cqmatic out.

tigger 07-22-2003 02:26 PM

yes, iŽm always checkin these points...

tested it with cq value 20 now, same again, 1 test with cq 20 and after that directly encoding with cq 20, without setting it up ...

black prince 07-22-2003 02:28 PM

@Kwag,

Tested "Monsters Inc" (min=92, ave birtate=1079, 1cd) with CQmatic
file prediction of 85.56. Chose audio of 112kbs size of 87mb. The
video file size is 716mb + 87mb audio = 803mb. WOW!!! :D that's
excellent prediction. Going to try "Gangs of NY" (min=167) on 2 disc
for 2 cds. BTW, Monsters picture quality is awesome :D

bp, what were your settings in moviestacker?

kwag, here my results of encoding :

video file size is : 639 mb

audio file size : 89 mb

= 728 mb , although i set moviestacker to 80min cdr.

well gonna try another one...:)

hey bp,

6 hours left to finish encoding ;)

I paid careful attention to settings in tab2 of Moviestacker and as a
result average bitrate increased from 1075 to 1079. This made the file
prediction more accurate :)

@rendalunit,

Just started "Gangs of NY" will report file size when done. Eventually
want to try KDVD for multiple movies using CQMatic to estimate how
many will fit using 704x480. 8)
