i tried encoding karate kid, which is full screen with the standard 2 cd kvcdx2 template and file size is 1.9 GB. I was just wondering what settings would be the best to change to lower the file size. Thanks.

You almost made it!. Just 300MB over
You can try lowering the CQ ( -5 ) from your current value. But the problem is really the full screen movie. You can normally fit about 90 minutes of "Full screen" movies, and about 120 minutes of "Wide screen" movies in a CD-R ( or 2 CD-R's using the 2 CD template )

Can you specify what settings you used for the kvcdx2 template?

the problem is that the kvcd structure and the custom gop andreas created is not ralph macchio compatible.

Doh, responded to your other post first. I'd use Kwag's suggestion of sticking with the KVCDx2 2-CD template and just lowering the CQ until it fits. You could obviously do the same with the 1-CD template, but that template already starts at a low value of 50 CQ, so lowering it further would begin to hurt your quality. The 2-CD template starts at 70, so you just keep backing off until it fits two cds. Just don't go below 50 CQ

amazingly, i went down to 35 with the CQ and it didn't look too bad and it fit on one cd. Although still having the audio skips....i'm using the pioneer dv-444. I just read that changing the VBV to 22 may fix that. I'll give that a try. Thanks.
