While I'm experianced with Mpeg encoding, I've never touched the GOP and left Tmpgenc at it's default.

Everything I read speaks of using a CQ setting, well I don't like the guess work that is involved in CQ. I can just use a classic 2 pass VBR... right?

If you plan do do like you always did (using VBr, do not touch the GOP nor the matrix....) just continue with SVCD.

If you plan to have the best that KVCD can give to you, you have to do all we do, including using CQ mode.

And between the two, you can do whatever you want, of course, but do not complain about the quality of the result.

yeah , i did some tests a while ago with 2-pass VBR and then with CQ. The 2-pass VBR output had very bad quality when compared to CQ.

If you search the forum, there is a thread that has pics comparing the two.
I just forgot where it is

Then you get "Standard" quality results. Not optimal, as we do.

You have several choices: ToK, acp, CQMatic and manual prediction. All are discussed in this site.

Sure, but you get sub quality, compared to KVCD

CQ encode from frame to frame and set the optimal bitrate for this but 2-pass doesen't and it's too long.

They're both doing their job in VBR

I don't know what you mean. Write in german.

I think you know what I mean. It set the bitrate better than 2-pass.

Well this now goes far away from topic and its not my intention to be offensive but ....

I do know what you intend to say but! A forum does not only exist just to offer dialogues between two persons and therefore to "clean up" their different point of views. A Forum and especial it's threads are like a "refering manual Book" for people outside of the actual discussion. And that's why there will be arguments from others if you say something wrong or something spoken too generally and not specific if its needed.

PS: If you don't understand something go to www.google.de and use "Sprachtools"(Languagetools) this will give you an understandable translation. Cause in this area of the forum the rule is to keep the english language and thats why I don't answer you in german, sorry ...

As I said .... read the thread posted above, at least in a german translation.
