How old is your Sony NS300? I've only been able to get this player to play two brands of cdr and they both happened to be bluish plastic. Many others are reporting this same problem...

I bought my mom one of these and it played your HBO-Cap sample #1 one time and ever since then it doesn't play any vcds anymore but it plays dvds just fine. There is quite a heavy layer of dust...
