crop the black borders and resize to the following pixels including a 16 pixel non-visible area. i think your movie is stored in anamorphic cinemascope.

PAL 4:3 -> 336 x 272
PAL 16:9 -> 336 x 216...

i encoded a *.d2v to a mpeg1 vbr with standard audio to a vcd non-standard stream. after i checked the result on my pc i wanted to make an svcd stream, because it is better for my standalone...

i'm encoding the same movie right now :) i think the problem is, that the under water scenes on the dvd aren't perfect too. e.g. the intro scene with the u-571 logo is blocky on the dvd and even more...
