I have done a lot of vhs conversations and tests with many vhs tapes and many VCRs. I have a very good idea of what a line TBC (inside a VCR) does.

What I can't seem to understand is a miniDV deck (Sony DHR-1000VC) that I came across with a TBC.

MiniDV is already digital, so why does it need a TBC? What does it do?

Purely for passthrough, to convert videotapes to DV. And not suggested.
