Hi all,

I've acquired some half-inch reel-to-reel tapes from a news broadcaster from the mid-2000s. I'm looking to digitize this in or around Dallas and wondering if anyone has any recommendations on places/people that do it or tips on how to. I've run into a wall on it!

Hello, this sort of format is rarely handled at least by the usual media transfer businesses you find in a small city serving domestic clients. There are businesses which transfer such formats but you would need to supply more information to a business than just that it's a 1/2" width tape. eg: track format (2 tk, 4 tk, 8 tk, 16 tk), tape speed, if noise reduction was used and if so which type. Is there any such information written on the tape boxes?

It looks like has 1/2 video tape reels, But yes format type needs to be known as there were quite few reel video tape formats.

It wasnt clear whether these were audio or video "reel to reels". A few photos might help clarify.

Half inch open reel video tape faded away after the introduction in the 70's of cassette video formats such as Beta, VHS, Umatic etc
