I'm trying to encode this flick, and the video is perfect, but the audio is, well, mysterious. It (it's an .AVI) plays fine in media player, and the video looks good out of Tempgenc, but Tempgenc won't read the audio. No big deal, I'll just extract audio and do the old Virtual Dub> Headac3he>Bbmpeg trick, right?

WRONG!

I tried to output to .wav using Vdub and got a 240mb (!) file size. This audio is weird. It appears to be outputting to a compressed format (mp3 or mp2). I changed to full processing mode and got a compatibility error (the requested audio compression is not compatible with the input format)!! I tried playing it (the audio file) in Winamp and Winamp doesn't recognize it. I played it successfully in media player, but the audio is choppy as hell.

I tried using an old standby in lieu of Vdub, and tried to extract the audio in Goldwave. No dice. It doesn't even see levels, let alone offering to play them. This program has been rock-solid in the past with every .AVI I've thrown at it, but not this time.

Guys, I'm fresh out of ideas. HELLLLLLP!

My guess is what you have there is a 240mb AC3 file. Try renaming it to my_audio.ac3 and loading it in HeadAC3he. I usually run them through BeSplit's "fix" mode first to get rid of the WAV header and correct any stream errors, but that's probably not necessary.
