Hi, My first Topic

1 - Thanks for your reply's

As you see in the title i convert my Movies AC3 file with HeadAC3he to OggVorbis.

My settings are

2 Pass Mode
Float
VBR Q2 or 3 (96/112)
Surround 2/ 2 channels

And i hit the start button to encode, but when i get the ogg file i see that the peak value can be still increased without clipping (i make the replaygain in foobar and it gives me more 3db or even in another file more 10db!!!!)

My question is, should i mantain the peak value as it is from HeadAC3 or should i increase it in foobar replaygain??? i Ask this because if it is a surround2 with 2 channels maybe headac3 had a point of only going to such peak value.

PS: in besweet with the same file with Hybridgain (surround2/2 channels) it's the opposite, i get cliping.

Hi Sniffer,

Your increase to +3 or +10 is in reference to what
If it's below 0db, you're fine.
As 0db would be the maximum (peak) value before you start distorting the audio signal, I would keep the maximum peaks to no higher than ~-2db, for insurance

really wise Kwag,
volume is for "amplifiers" not for files with big peaks!

Thanks for your advise.

I have my doubt solved.

HeadAC3he makes the volume a little behind the possibilities without cliping, but i take the file to Foobar2000 and apply replayGain and turns a little louder without any clipping, i think HeadAC3he don't apply to the max the Gain.

As Follow:

AC3 File convertion with HeadAC3

Peak Value - (-1.7db)

But when taking the file to Foobar2000 (applying replaygain), it is increased to

Peak Value - (-0,3db)

I have heard the file over and over and No clipping (Foobar have a warning error's message, like clip's and other problems).

I think it's explained.
