new, faster and free.

Very simple and fast AC3, MPA/MP2 audio encoder tool.
Open WAV, MP3, AVI video, MPG video and convert directly to AC3
or MPA/MP2 audio in one step.
GUI for ffmpeg 0.4.8. Extract all files to a folder and run ffmpeggui.exe.

I don't see any normalize option so this tool isn't really usable for me.
Audio streams are often so low that they sometimes need to be boost by 12 dB !

you're right about normalization Phil but if the source is wave,
(i ever extract as wave) then take in T-Racks(tube simulator)
and after in soundforge .....the wave encrease in quality!

you can use another wave editor, normalize, encrease parameters
like basses and trebles for example, then encode as ac3!

the cool is that the size in ac3-2channels 192 is the same as mp2 in 192!
cool or lame?

well, for kdvd i will use it or soft encode!
this is faster than soft encode (for 2 channels),free
and resample 44k to 48k if needed!
Tool features, Convert:
AVI to AC3, AVI to MP2, DivX to AC3, DivX to MP2, DV to AC3, DV to MP2, MPG to AC3, MPG to MP2, VCD to AC3, VCD to MP2, SVCD to AC3, SVCD to MP2, XviD to AC3, XviD to MP2, MP2 to AC3, MP2 to MP2, MP3 to AC3, MP3 to MP2, WAV to AC3, WAV to MP2.

There is no interrest in doing that ! That's only a box arround a gift. The shape of the box don't change the nature of the gift that is inside.

surprise:

using the same source encoded as wave(ac3 from vobedit-headac3he to wave)
dvd mana mtv unplugged

i encode this wave in ffmpegGUI and in sonic foundry soft encode.
results:

ffmpegGUI...
is faster and stable!
give less volume and treble comparing with the original ac3-2 channels.

sonic foundry soft encode...
need 6 x more time to encode
adjusting -31db (max) give less volume than ffmpegGUI

need more tests...another source will be used.
maybe some calm like.....led zep!

again to test i did:
original ac3-5.1 channels 384
original ac3-2 channels 192
soft encode ac3-2 channels 192
ffmpegGUI ac3-2channels 192
headac3he stereo mp2 192

like posted before the audio was demuxed with vobedit and
encoded as wave, 100% normalization without downsample(48k).
this wave was used to do the last 3 channels.

comparing the original ac3-2 channels testing dvd-rw in pc and in 2 players:

from:
soft encode with more "middle" , same volume.
ffmpegGUI less "trebles", less volume ( ~ -2db )
headac3he more presence and loudness(clear).

ffmpeGUI is faster, soft encode sounds better and
headac3he is really clear (stereo)

the best:
is the first dvd Mana mtv unplugged with 5 audio channels

Hey Jorel!

As I'm having many audio problems (don't know why Softencode is SO MUCH more unstable under the newer versions of Diko), I'd like to know how you would join 2 wav files before importing to ffmpegui...

I tested it - and it works, but as I expected (because of what was related earlier) the sound is VERY low. I looked for a tool like the one you mentioned, but I cant find it.

So in short - plz answer these 2 questions:
1) How do I join the wav files to use for authoring with diko conversions?
2) Where can I find the tool you mention to solve the volume problem?

MANY thx - and nice tip!

Regards,

Regards,
in steps...

1a- join the waves in any wave editor like sound forge, wavelab, cooledit...!
open the first wave, then open the second wave. (2 windows)
let the cursor in the final of the first wave.
select all and copy the second wave.
paste in the final of the first wave.....save as....done!

1b- i don't use DIKO....i don't encode divx!

2a- is in the same link of the first post:
http://www.dvdrhelp.com/tools.php?tool=434
is called "ffmpegGUI". and it's free.

2b- the volume problems came from softencode.
using ffmpegGUI you don't loose too much volume like in soft encode but
ffmpegGUI only encode ac3-2 channels, not 5.1!
