Hi All
I'm back after several months away and what a difference - everythings changed! I now have to start from scratch including setting up all the scripts on a new computer. Therein lies my problem.
I copied the optimal script and added Deinterlace() since I am trying to encode my MinDv's but other than that everything else is the same. Got through the codec problem but now I'm having problems opening the Avisynth (2.52) file. The straight .avi file opens ok in Tmpg and Vdub but not in the optimal script. I get this error: Avisynth open error: MpegSource: couldn't open file.... I think it must be a Mpeg2Dec3 error - maybe a colour space problem but don't know where to go from here. Any suggestions?
Thanks
Clive

Hi Kwag
You sure are fast at a response - just like always!
The error I gave is the error from Vdub... It just adds the file for the rest of the error. Tmpg error is "MPEG2Source: couldn't open file". The file opens fine in both Tmpg and Vdub - just not in the script.

Hello,
You say your file is an avi. So i think you have to use AviSource instead of Mpeg2Source

Thanks Boeddha
That did it... it's been a few months. Now I do have a colourspace conversion problem - The first half of the preview on Tmpg and Vdub is magenta (purple)... Any ideas?
Thanks

Try SwapUV() right after your source line.

Install newer versions of your DivX or XVid Codec!

If thats a kind of "purple block" problem, I remember I had this when I installed the Nemo Codec Pack, uninstalling it fixed the problem.

Hi All
Well the SwapUV() came up with a new error: Plane Swapper: YV12 data only. I guess MiniDV NTSC is not in YV12 native. I need to convert to YV12 I guess??? Are there any colour space converters out there that will do that?
Thanks

I guess I'm becoming a pain in the ***. Did a conversion to YV12 and now the entire screen is green! Still have a problem but now at least no script errors. I tried putting YV12toYuY2 at the end but that doesn't help. Back to the drawing board.

Hi Kwag
That was my first problem. After putting in the correct codec, the bare .avi file loads into tmpg and Vdub correctly. It's only when I try loading it with Avisynth 2.52 into vdub, Tmpg and Tok that the green shows up. The entire screen is green. I suspect the camera uses a colour space different than YV12 and something isn't being converted correctly. Do you know what colour space tmpg requires?
I guess nothing's easy! Any suggestions?

Could you post a short sample of the video (using vdub/direct stream copy)? Also please tell us what codec vdub reports in file/File Information.

Hi Sh0dan
The raw .avi file info: Main Concept DV codec 2.1.0 - what I would expect
The output from my .avs file: DivX 5.0.5 - Very strange indeed! since I was frame serving (so I thought) to Tmpg... I guess no wonder it's green! Now we just have to try and fix it. I compressed a 1 second screen shot but not sure how to attach it... Maybe I'll PM you since it's only 114k or so.
Thanks
Clive

Have you tried the free Canopus codec? I use i regulary without any problems. It should also deliver better image quality.
Anyway - I need the input file of your AVI - the one that's failing.
You might also have a look in the Doom9 DV forum

@ ShOdan
I downloaded the Canopus codec and the results are the same (green screen). Is there any way I can attach a file to this post? I don't have an ftp server. I could email it to you if you PM me your email address.
Thanks

You need to change the FOURCC of your file, for it to actually be opened by the Canopus codec. They have a free utility for that. Otherwise see doom9.

@ ShOdan
My fan on my power supply died last night so I haven't had a chance to try changing the fourC. Did you get a chance to look at the file that I sent to you? I will probably have to wait until the weekend to get the fan fixed.

Haven't had a chance to look at it - but I probably will before the weekend.
