Think I have a Catch 22 situation here...

I want to install Mandrake 10.1 Linux onto my pc. I have the installation discs and it will probably install just fine.

I currently use a USB ADSL Modem to connect to the Internet. The drivers it uses are for Windows only. However, I've been told by my ISP about alternate 3rd party drivers to use the same Modem but on Linux.

Because I'm still a newbie on this, I am not sure how to get these drivers onto Linux. What I mean is, can I copy the drivers onto a blank CDR using Windows (with Nero for example) and will Linux then read the CDR ok?

If it won't read a Windows burnt CDR, how do I 'go online' using Linux to get the drivers that allow me to 'go online'?

Just to check then, a standard 'data disc' burnt under windows will be readable under linux?

i suppose whilst I'm asking, I may as well also ask...will all types of disc be able to be read via linux? I mean such things as mp3 discs, K(S)VCD etc...

Yes Yes. Linux supports all standard file sistems. Joliet, FAT, FAT32, NTFS, JFS, XFS, ReiserFS, EXT2, EXT3, etc.
As a matter of fact, it supports more filesystems that any M$ OS All

Hi, fella! As Karl have said, all data disc will be read under linux since them be in the ISO9660 filesystem conformity. Now, to play mp3 discs will must have the soft player installed (there is a lot for linux), for play media files (SVCD, VCD, etc) will must to have the soft player installed (there is the "MPlayer" for instance), so don´t worry, man! Be Happy with Linux!
