Yes, I had to install .NET 1.1, run the tool, burn a new Windows Lite CD.
And I had to reinstall the OS but it's working fine now.
You can even slipstream new patches that aren't yet available on your SP .

have you tried to upgrade your patched windows version yet?
don't be surprised, if you won't be able to upgrade that system, since new SP version will look at a corrupted version. this is what happened to me after I installed a XP-SP1 slipstreamed version. no way to upgrade that one to SP-2...

I had Outlook Express and Windows Media Player removed from the original CD.
And I slipstreamed XP's SP2 on my new install.
I wonder if I did the right thing by slipstreaming XP2 on it
So for now, I can't tell you if I'll be able to upgrade to future SPx, .
But all my Windows Update engine is working fine.
It's not faster or anything, but since I don't use both OE and WMP I thought I'd give it a try, you know.
I could have tried to remove IE too, but I was affraid Windows Update wouldn't work.
That's always good news
They should make M$ strip Windows from everything that isn't 100% needed on an OS.
It could come on the CD but you should be able to choose wether to install it or not

I didn't want to discourage you, I just pointed out my experiences with a Slipstreamed version of XP...
Might aswell work for you to upgrade to SP3 in the future...

now that's a matter of taste... i never had a single problem with SP-2 and it kinda feels safer with the newest update for my OS especially when you're online a lot...

IIRC Windows Update can only be used with IE. Otherwise you'll have to download the update packages (and figure out the KB number!) manually, and that is a bitch. If you have ever tried searching for anything at Microsoft's website, you'll know what I mean
