Over all its awesome, getting encodes in just faster than real time frameserving thru avisynth to tmpgenc at high quality and my ram is only 2100 got a gig of it though lol.

have you read about the new intel 4 2.4 C i think it is, its been clocked upto 3.6 gig but Windows got a bit buggy so they put it back to 3.3 gig and it was totally stable, those things cost around the 3 hundred mark, want to talk about sweet spots theres one there.
Hi TLTw, i dont think it has anything to do with your board, i think it may
have something to do with the way they handle the HD; i remeber i took
a quick course at DELL when i was in texas they explain to us how fragile are this things and how much carefull we need it to be while handling.
Also an HDD is not something i would mail order; Some time ago I talk this repair guy that had a hole batch of bad Westen drives. So again i dont
think it has anything to do w your board.

I've got a P4 2.4c overclocked to 3.15ghz and it's rock stable. With dual channel memory and hyperthreading this thing is smokin fast.

With hyperthreading alone I gained a 30% increase in encoding time having it on compared to turning it off. My memory bandwidth benchmark scores are about 5500Mbps. Funny thing is we have a 2.8ghz P4 at work but it only has DDR266 memory and it is way slower 1700Mbps memory bandwidth.

I guess a fast FSB makes a huge difference

Hey man sorry to be bragging. I'm just all giddy as anyone would be. Don't want to come off like an ass so sorry.

Anywho That XP1700 chip you have is very very overclockable if it is a througbred revision B. Actually it's one of the best AMD chips ever considering it's price.

Have you tried pushing it's limits? If you want I can dig up some good info and put you in the right direction. Many people have gotten 2.2ghz from that chip with ease and the AMDs have a lower clock speed but do very well compared to the higher clocked Intels

That would mean a new board and memory to go with it, my board is only 266 MHZ FSB + 256 SDRAM memory.
