I started-off using the latest version of TMPGEnc, until I came across problems with a KVCD that was too large for an 80 minute CD. After reading through a number of posts, there were indications that certain versions of TMPGEnc created a larger KVCD file size than could be burned, so I took the advice of one of the guides which said to use TMPGEnc-2.58.44.152-Free.

My standalone DVD player (Mustek V562) doesn't like large resolutions on any type of VCD, so I attempted to create a 2hr 45min KVCD with KVCD-LBR-352x288-_PAL_-PLUS.mcf. The template page says that I can fit up to 180 minutes on a CD with this, but the file size is still coming out too large (around 970MB). I tried to burn it anyway, but it wouldn't all fit on an 80min CD. On playing it, I get around 2hr 30min on an 80min CD before it has gone over the end of the CD.

Am I using the correct version of TMPGEnc? Am I using the correct template? Why would the template page suggest 180mins when it is much less in reality? Does anyone have an exact length of time that the templates can handle?

I'm downloading from VCD newsgroups, combining to one MPG with TMPGEnc, and then converting to KVCD. Conversion tools:

TMPGEnc-2.58.44.152-Free
VCDGear v3.55
CDRWin 5.05.001

Your version is correct. The one to avoid is 2.59.

BUT You must do a filse size prediction to find the correct CQ corresponding to your current source !

As said, the template is to put UP TO 180 min; It is not said "180 min guaranted anytime".

Yep i can vouch for it , i have done a 197 min film on one cd, get TOK or CQ Matic and let them encode the movie for you.

Sorry if its a silly Q, but TMpgEnc has wierd numbering system.

I've got 2_521_58_169 (521 is newer that 529???) - is that one ok, or should I go look for an older one??

The is no 529. This the way to read : 2.5.8 - 2.5.9 - 2.5.13 ... 2.5.20 - 2.5.21

I don't remember what other subversion there was besides these ones...

My Question still stands - this is the latest (non 3.0 xpress) verion available, does it still have the size problem?

As you can see in my post, 2.59 was followed at least by 2.5.13, 2.5.20 and 2.5.21 (mayd be also have a 2.5.10 and a 2.5.11, I'm not sure).

So in other words : this bug was fixed since months

Note: BTW it affected only MPEG1 and not MPEG2.

I just wanted confirmation of it being fixed (after all, new versions don't really mean they fixed ALL the bugs in the old one's, hey!?)

(Personally I think they took txt projects out of vers 3 xpress just to stop tools like dvd2svcd and such like - call me paranoid if you like, my 'conspiracy' theories are usually proved right in the end. )

I don't see the point to block some tools to use your product. The more people use these tools, the most they buy your product
