I found a way to join my avseq0x.dat files so that they can be reencoded but it's really weird- not sure why it works (maybe it only works for me)

1. Extract the AVSEQ0x.DAT files from the MPEGAV folder of the vid. cd and extract filtering the M2F2 frames with Isobuster.

2. Change each AVSEQ0x.DAT file to the same filename and add .00x extension (i.e. AVSEQ.DAT.001, .002, etc)

3. Join with HJSplit

4. change joined file extension from .DAT to .MPG and load in Virtual Dub and save the audio to .wav.

5. frameserve the video to TMPGEnc and reencode

6. encode the .wav with Heada3he and mux with the video stream with BBMpeg and burn

the joined mpegs couldn't be demuxed correctly so there's probably errors where they're joined. I tried this method a few times though and it worked for me.

------------------------edit

I've used this method now about 10 times so far and it works each time. I find this very useful for transferring my videos that are on two cds to just one cd with the 352x240 LBR template. The only filter I use in VDub is the resize because the other noise, deinterlace filters were already used in the previous encode. Also when reencoding the audio, there's no need to resample to 44.1 khz because it already is

I'm reencoding "the Mothman Prophecies (~120 min)" now and the encoding time is 1.5 hours

Wow, thanks for this post. It is exactly what I was here looking up info on! Have you made any refinements since this process was created?

To be more specific, any way to merge the process in with ACP or something to automate+file predict?

I still haven't figured out how to use Avisynth in conjunction with VDub frameserving

You could save the file as compressed with Huffy avi then frameserve with Avisynth but that's very time consuming (and drive space too).

Daagar, please post anything you find out about how to do this or different ways, problems, etc.!!

Thanks a lot,
Randy

Hi rendalunit,

Since your re-encoding to a lower resolution have you tried using
a filter called "UnDot" that effects Gibbs noise. If so, how well did
this work The link is:

Thanks

What I'm attempting to do now is use DVD2AVI instead of Vdub. Load up the various AVISEQ* files into DVD2AVI, and let it spit out an appropriate .d2v and .mpa file. Use Headac3he to convert the .mpa to a lower bitrate .mp2. Then I can use AVISynth and all the various fun filters like FluxSmooth/LegalClip/Sampler to resize and use the latest file-prediction formulas.

What is unclear to me so far is exactly which filters are really necessary for SVCD conversions. Blockbuster and Fluxsmooth are usually talked about in the context of DVD->KVCD, not SVCD->KVCD.

@ black prince,

Thanks for the link to Undot- I couldn't find it and I wanted to try it. Unfortunately, it only works with AviSynth 2.5 Alpha which I coudn't fine- even at sourceforge.net. Have you tried Undot?
