Hi Men,
I have a question
Is SKVCD(MPEG2)(352x576) better than KVCD(MPEG1)(352x576)?
and Why please? I think that is valide also for 528x576

Thanks very much

Hi Major,

KVCD MPEG-1s done with TMPEG, are better than just about any current MPEG-2 encoder.
It really all boils down to the encoder, and TMPEG is by far the best MPEG-1 encoder.

Sorry for the question again.
I have just read That fabrice says: MPEG2 is better in tmpgenc xpress, and also in other subjects that mpeg2 is usually better in higher resolutions than 352x288, that is in 352x576 or 528x576 or higher. it is true?

Thanks

No.

BTW the problem is not MPEG1 vs MPEG2 but "MPEG1 from a given encoder et a given bitrate" vs "MPEG2 from a given encoder at a given bitrate"

TMPGENC MPEG1 is better than anything at low bitrates (for KVCD)
TMPGENC MPEG2 is better than CCE MPEG2 at low bitrate, whatever the res
TMPGENC MPEG2 is better than CCE MPEG2 at high bitate but low res
CCE MPEG2 is better than anything for high bitrates and hig res.

And you have to multiplicate all this cases by introducing new encoders in the comparison !

I usually use TMPGEnc. the resolutions i want are 352x576 or 528x576, depends on the resulting facor quality. so the bitrates are higher because for 352x576 MPEG1 and MPEG2 the maximum bitrate is 2500
and for 528x576 MPEG1 and MPEG2 the maximum bitrate is 2800.

So according to wich you have said.

TMPEGnc MPEG2 (352x576)-(528x576) is better than TMPEGnc MPEG1 (352x576)-(528x576) ??

Thanks

We are not speaking about the maximum but the average bitrate. You plan to do CD as target ? So the (avg) bitrate is low.
And as I wrote :

How can I know the average bitrate? when i load the template for kvcd tmpeg1 528x576, i have seen that tha maximum is 2500 and the minmum is 300?

You don't have to give the average, it is fixed by the quality you ask to tmpgenc to use. This is the CQ parameter.

But you must determine the best CQ that will give you the better average according to your source ! And that is the tool CQMatic that will help you to do that.

Look at here :
http://www.kvcd.net/forum/viewforum.php?f=64

(note : besides CQMatic you can find an other tool called Calcumtic that is a little calc that can give you the avg that you will have on your final KVCD, just for information).
