Right now I am using Dvd Fab Decrypter / Smart Ripper. I know smart ripper is kind of outdated but it does the job fine. So I am wondering if there are any other dvd rippers that are better than these? Any recommendations or am I set to go? Just wanting to know.

-Thanx

Forget smartripper. Use DVDDecrypter as long as it can handle your DVD, and if it fails then take DVDFab Decrypter.

I agree with Dialhot, nothing to beat DVDD.

200% DVDDecrypter.
And you run into some newly ARccOS encrypted DVD titles you can always use a PLS file already made by others with the same movie or go with pgcEdit and the PLS plugin.
Not as nice as it used to be but at least it will be muuuuch faster than DVDFab and it will use 1/3 of the CPU!
Go DVDDecrypter !

I'll post a couple of links as soon as I get home because I don't have them with me now.
I have tried to make my own pls file with pgcedit and the plugin.
Only once and it worked.
But other guys are already posting their pls files on the net so you don't need to go with all that trouble if your movie has been "studied" by others .
Cheers

Sorry for mispelling the name of the files.
It's PSL2 files intead of PLS .
As promissed here are a couple of links that have guides about this topic.
http://forum.digital-digest.com/showthread.php?t=56831
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/255980

Want some ready made PSL2 files for your movies?
Check here: http://forum.digital-digest.com/showthread.php?t=51071.
Oh and here too: http://www.cdr-zone.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=33.
IIRC you'll have to register at Digital Video forum if you want to download the files.
But go ahead because registration is free.
Actually this PSL2 is pretty much new stuff for me.
I didn't have any new ARccOS protected DVD but I wanted to try this.
So I cheated .
I rented a movie that is ARccOS protected and tried it just for testing purposes.
All I can say is that with that movie it worked perfectly .
Now if I want to backup a ARccOS protected DVD I can use DVDDecrypter.
I will only use DVDFab free if I don't have any other choice!
It s*cks big time
It uses a lot of needless CPU cycles (95~100% CPU usage!).
And it takes ages (more than 2 hours IIRC) to decrypt a DVD when DVDDecrypter can do that in 15 minutes using as much as 25% of CPU .
Cheers

Send a message via MSN to Shibblet
I know I am going to take some heat for this one... but I really like CladDVD. Seems to work perfect for me in any situation.

No heat at all Shibblet .
You should use whatever tools suites you (and your needs) best.
I'm very used to DVDDecrypter and it is know as one of the best ripping tools out there.
It's got many cool features and it never let me down in the past.
Maybe you can say the same about CladDVD and that's very good.
It means we have alternatives in case something goes wrong .
I just posted because DVDD was dead with the new ARccOS encryption algos and now we have another chance to keep using it.
At least it's fans can go on using it.
Of course it won't be as easy as with CladDVD or with DVDFab and it won't be hassle free.
But it works .
I'll check CladDVD.
I used to use it before I found DVDD but it was so long ago that perhaps I won't recognize it now .
Cheers

You're welcome .
You don't have to use smartripper.
You always have DVDFab free.
But I'm quite sure you'll be better off with DVDDecrypter .
Cheers

DVDfab is still not stable, it skips even in case of real read errors, I would say stick to PSL2 plugin wizard and DVD decrypter for any ripping.

Man!, this is a pain in the ass!!
Anydvd is not free and I will go with free as long as I can!
DVDDecrypter is still the best free ripper/decrypter around unless if you catch a new ARccOS title from Sony/Columbia.
I know about Anydvd and DVD43, etc but DVDD is free and it does the job better than anything else, even Anydvd.
Cheers
