Best Way to Rip DVD?

What does everyone think about the best way to rip a dvd with good quality. What programs does kwag and everyone else use?

I always use DVD Decrypter and it always works. But whenever I use DVD2AVI to encode the picture is always bad and has interlace lines. What encoderd does everyone use?

SmartRipper failed me once- it made the audio of "Proof of Life" out of sync by 10 seconds. DVD Decrypter is always being updated and there's a forum there too so you can ask the author dvd ripping questions.

SmartRipper failed on me too. Don't remember exactly the movie, but the ripped VOB's when played back, had the "looping" effect. Where you start to play, and then it jumps back some frames, and repeats the process again. Since then, I've been using DVDDecrypter exclusively.

I had that same problem with the looping also. I just selected stream processing and that cured the problem...It also cured a rip where the DVD had a lot of scratches. When I used DVD2SVCD it ripped the bad sections and the movie (in certain scenes) showed the digital defects. So I ripped with Smartripper (stream processing on) and I got a clean film. I thought of doing it this way because the scratched DVD played fine in the standalone player. This also cured the out of sync audio with Kate and Leopold. I think DVD Decryptor has the stream option also. HTH

Hi Yoda,

Have you tried DVDDecrypter with "Stream Processing" ?
I believe it's similar to SmartRipper. The main reason I like DVDDecrypter better, is because it's more up to date, and has more options ( ISO, etc ) that SmartRipper doesn't have. It also has a "detect mastering errors", which I believe could fix reading many damaged DVD's.

Hi Kwag,
Yes, I use both DVD Decryptor and SmartRipper depending on which computer I'm on. The latest Decryptor works real well and has stream processing. I should try Decryptor on that one scratched DVD and see if it corrects those bad sectors any better (with and without stream enabled).
Still having padding problems but will post in the bbMPEG section.
