My player usually shows jerky video on all kvcd templates other than 352x240 resolution

But, it will play standard svcd's as long as the header trick is applied.

So today I changed the resolution to 480x480 in both the KVCDx3-mpeg2 and the SKVCD and then applied the header trick to both of them and burned the samples to a cd.. they both played smoothly in my stand alone!

This was my first success with Kwags higher res templates

Question now is, which template would be best for me to use given these choices?
KVCDx3 mpeg2 with header trick applied
or
SKVCD with header trick applied?

I would prefer putting entire movie on 1 cd - what's my best bet?

The lower resolution=smaller file size, but less quality...

MPEG2 files are larger than Mpeg1 and take longer to encode...

So if you have to use mpeg2 then use it at 352x480
and KVCDX3

hi all,

i use KVCDx3Mpeg2 and SKVCD(mpeg2) with:
352x480 and 480x480,(min 300, max 2500)
burn as svcd in nero....
fantastic result..only a few diference!

load the template,
in "setting" change what you need !

King Tuk, Jorel, I am preety sure that at one time I did try the SKVCD template as is (352x480) - but it would not play correctly on my Akai DVPS-760 ... perhaps I should give it another try, maybe did something wrong last time..
but as I said, based on test of other kvcd templates, none of the "oddball" resolutions seem compatable with my player.. so why would 352x480 be any different?

Much apprecition to your comments and advice, but I think it will come back to my specific question:

Of the following two choices, which method would be best, expecially if I want to attempt to put almost 2 hours on one cd?
1. KVCDx3 mpeg2 with header trick applied
2. SKVCD (also mpeg 2) with header trick applied?

And BIG: I assume you saw jorel's reply to your question.. you just change it under the settings tab in tmpeg before encoding

end80,

the 2 options are very good!

try encode one chapter for test
and see the diferences(is just a little)

ps:
most people choice KVCDx3....
compare the scripts KVCDx3 and SKVCD
(load one and see, than load another in TMPGenc),
and you see a few diferences too.

This is what I do:

1st I try KVCDx3 (mpeg-2) if I need to set the CQ too low or if I get too much mosquitoes in the sample, I try SKVCD. If SKVCD still needs a too low CQ or if the sample doesn't look good, I try again KVCDx3 targeted at 2 CDs.

If it's something like Woodstock with ~4 hours and I need the audio to be the best, I use LBR 352x240 and put 120 mins in each cd with whatever quality it gets.
