I'm converting an .avi file that was captured with Adobe Premiere 6.5 and a firewire adapter. The process is going OK using the full KDVD template but there is one little detail.

I noticed that when I load the KDVD template on TMPGenc it selects video only automatically. How can I extract the audio from an .avi file so that bbmpeg understands it? My plan is to re-mux both video and audio with bbmpeg and then bin&cue to finally burn it.

Any light on that? Please don't send me to the kvcd guide because that departs from the fact that you are ripping a dvd and then create a project that gives you both the audio and the video file.

You load your avi with Vdub, and extract the audio as WAV. Then you encode the WAV with HeadAC3he to .MP2. Then you mux your video and your new audio with BBMpeg.
