Hi vhelp,

Sorry for taking so long to answer you.
I lost track of this thread, and today I accidentally find it!

You will not get stuck w/ the latest version "locking" you into it! This is NOT the M$ new media player. It's the good old media player classic but with MANY MANY new features. As I said, this one is under constant development by Gabest (from VobSub). (verssion 6.4.4.2 now)

It's just a thin and clean EXE. Nothing else.
No installer, no messing with the register, no "locking" you into it.
It's just a 600kb EXE.

So, I don't bother w/ mplayer and instead, I
use Zoomplayer, and my PC monitor viewing is fantasic (so far)
This media player classic will use exactlly the same filters that ZP uses.
And as I said it makes a great job with "aspect ratios".

Btw, you know that the author of ZoomPlayer advises to instal the new mplayer9 and directx9 (these two from M$ ), don't you? He says that installing them ZP will seek faster... I have them installed with XP and never had a problem, but with Win98 I think you will be saffer not installing it.

So, I have question for anyone.. how I might be able to encode my clips (divX)
but with a 1:1 AR, so that my encodes play properly in ANY software player app,
using vdub or AVIsynth filter techniques ??
I'm not the best person to give you DivX advises (I made few of it), but as no one answered I'm gonna try. Please keep in mind that I'm not sure of anything I'll say. It will be just some logical deduction.

Well, for an anamorphic source (and no final borders), you will have to keep the same aspect ratio factor of your source. Lets say that after you cut all borders you will end up with a resolution of 704x300. The factor of 704/300 is 2.34. So if you want a final width resolution of 640, then you do 640/3.34 and you will find your height resolution is 274. So you encode as 640x274. If your source is fullscreen the it sould be easier. Just keep a factor of 4:3 (1.33) and you will be fine.
