Well, I just used google's translator, but the translation doesn't make too much sense
I guess we'll need a German translator to tell us what it's all about.
Here's the link again, as posted on the main page at www.kvcd.net

What can I say!, I just blew ~$30+ dollars on this crap, so I might as well notify everyone of the crap that it is
The encoder is extremely fast, slightly faster that real time. Where's the catch? Looks SO bad! It uses VBR and VGOP ( Variable GOP ) with sizes up to 100 . That's looking at the data with Bitrate Viewer.
What does it look like like CRAP , specially on slow/still images. It looks like a ghost is on top of the image, just like the old KVCD templates that had the GOP set to 48, but far worse Here's a sample of what you would get with "DaViDeo 3": http://www.kvcd.net/davideo3-mvcd.mpg
That's what the complete movie would look like at 352x240 on one CD-R.
Not even a close match for the same movie with KVCDx3 on one CD-R
They claim ~4 hours on one CD with their "Maxi" VCD. Well, there you have it. End of story, and end of my ~$30.00

Edit: Here's a KVCD_LBR (audioless) sample of the same scene: http://www.kvcd.net/kvcd-lbr-sea.mpg

well, i´ll try to translate it:

Because of the falling prices for DVD burners, the old cd looses its meaning for making backups of films. The Software producer G Data gives the cheap cd-r another chance with his dvd-copy-program DaVideo3. It produces 1:1 copies by mouseklick. but it is new, that it can burn movies with extended length.

GData uses Maxi-Video-CD (M-VCD). Already longer users experiment with modified VCD`s. The standard resolution 352x288 is raised to DVD resolution 704x576. To lower the bitrate they use MPEG1 with vbr, which contradicts the VCD specifications as well, as the increased resolution. Such VCD´s are called XVCD or KVCD. GData wants to establish his own modification with Maxi Video CD. VCD modifications are interesting, because they can be played on stand alone dvd-players.

GData sees a good perspective for the cd-r:" we want to show, that the cd still has a lot of oportunities." Maxi Video-CD proves, that cd-r is still an attractiv medium for movies - with an unbeatable price. Besides, DaVideo3 also offers an extension to super video-cd (SVCD), the so called Maxi Super Video CD (M-SVCD).in addition to that, the program also can encode divx, xvid, mpeg 4 and vp3. DaVideo nearly rips all Video-DVD´s.
All film formats, subtitles etc can be used with DaVideo3.
It should be released in april and costs 30euro.

i hope, this helps you

as you can see, the author of this text doesn´t know anything about kvcd, he just uses the word and mixes up kvcd, xvcd and so on.

Hey no problem Jellygoose
I just had to test it If it had been good, then I would have posted a good review. But the quality is SO bad, that I had to say it
Even a KVCD LBR with ~4 hours of video looks far better that Maxi VCD. I do give credit to their user interface. It's really well designed, but that's about it

Well, I think the program will be good (if it's as fast as you say) for people to make quick backups for long car trips etc... for their portable DVD player...

Because I don't think you could really tell a difference on a 5" screen

Update on patch for DaVideo3 Version 3.0.2.28

I just downloaded this patch for my version of Davideo3.
It now includes subtitle selection , and I don't know if it's my eyes or what, but the quality seems much better. I just encoded a 5 minute clip, and I can definitely see the improvements. I think this is now very promising, so I retract on some of my previous comments. They were targeted at the first version of DaVideo3. Not the case anymore! The quality doing standard VCDs is excelent, and SVCD is exceptional
What I'm really beginning to like about this program is the awesome encoding speed. It's slightly faster that real-time on my P4 @1.6Ghz doing "Maxi VCD" and VCD. Haven't benchmarked SVCD yet.
Will keep experimenting with this

The patch is available for download here: http://www.gdata.de/filemanager/fileview/534/
It will ONLY update your full registered version.
The program is doing a good job, but still far from 352x240(28 KVCDs, and it's no match to KVCDx3

What does kvcdx3 actually mean??
Do u use it for any movie, or just for the long ones??
When I load the .m2v in moviestacker italready loads the lengh of the movie... is that number correct?? because it show 87 min and the movie actually 107min..!!! I loaded 3-4 times like they said in the tutorial but it's always the 87 min!!!

for my backup of lord of the rings i used 2 cd´s , of course

was your source dvd ntsc, or why did you use

Code:
assumeFPS
?

maybe you should create a new d2v file with dvd2avi

no
just tread it as ntsc in dvd2avi
create a new d2v file and try again

Quote:
Use DVD2AVI:

Go to File>open>(select a vob, e.g. vts_01_1.vob, file from Step 1)
dvd2avi will use the rest of the files
Go to Option>Preview (play 1 or 2 minutes of the video)
Watch the ?Video Type? field and use the table below to
set Video> Field Operation:

(1) Video Type........................ (2) Field Operation

NTSC at 5% or higher............ None (use decomb in your avs script)
FILM at 95% or lower............ None (use decomb in your avs script)
FILM only (implies 100%)..... Forced FILM
FILM at 96% or higher.......... Forced FILM

Go to Audio>Track Number>Track 1 (this usually is the audio channel)
Go to Audio>Dolby Digital>Demux (this creates an .ac3 file)
Go to File>Save Project>(your video .d2v file)
When done close DVD2AVI
