Im not sure what happened, but WMP will only play some of my videos now, I have DivX and Xvid codecs installed, I have re-installed WMP and Direct-X, movies I know worked before, do not work now, some play audio only and some play with a green and blurry image and some just play thr first frame and lock the video, with the adio playing.
basically, my media setup is screwed. what can I do to get my media setup back up and running?,

Good question! Maybe you could open up the file in vdub to find out which codec you need and then download the codec from the great link that jorel posted http://mirror01.iptelecom.net.ua/~video/ and see if it works then

Looks like u have DirectShow filters prob !
Try to uninstall all codect u have installed : DivX , Xvid ...
Install Nimo codec pack ( full )
Uninstall Nimo pack
Install DivX 5.0.5 ,Xvid last edition and new DirectShow from Jorel's link .
I hope this'll help

If it played fine yesterday and doesnt today ask yourself what has changed?
Have I installed any new software at all?
The answers to these questions should point you in the dirrection you should take and also give others some clues as to how they could help.

yes i did, i installed the ACE codec, but it has worked fine since i installed it a week ago, i have not installed any other software, all of the sudden yesterday, my videos are all screwed up, i am 1 second away from reinstalling windows, and that would suck, because i have a ton of files to back up...there has to be an easier way.......

Bombero, you could try installing a different player (Zoomplayer ) and see if it works then.

yeah, i tried zoom and several others, even my WINDVD is acting up, everything on the computer is fine except the videos...now a couple of the movies are playing upside down...? I deleted evry codec that I could find and reinstalled WMP, no good, i started with NIMO codec and some of them work, I then did DivX 5.05 and a few more worked, I cant find an updated XviD codec or the DirectShow codec yet, but still looking.......

This is one of the reasons I have stuck with win2k and media player 6.4, another reason is that I hate the fisher price interface but thats a whole other can of worms

Try AVIcodec, http://avicodec.duby.info/
It´s a great program to check which codec the file uses, and it´s a great site too!
