I have a question, is there a way to use a kdvd template reconde a movie with it and pop it back into the dvd structure( Movie vob files)to retain all the menus, features etc. I want an alternative to dvdshrink.

For now there isn't. But you can try the so-called big three (DoItFast4U,DoCCE4 and Reauthorist) at doom9. Takes a long time processing but in the end you will have a perfect copy of the DVD-9 in DVD5, without any unwanted extras with all the menu structure. Since the video is reencoded using CCE you get the best quality possible IMO. If you are interested, check here:

You could also use this guide and encode video in TmpgEnc using the KDVD templates and scripts but I am not sure this method keeps menus:

Yes:

Both the latest versions of DVD2One or Pinnacle InstantCopy will allow you to do what you want, but you'll have to shell out 40 or 50 bucks for the SW.

They will even allow you to vary the amount of compression, or DCT loss, per title.

The Doom9 site does indeed have guides that will allow you to extract the main moovy, reencode and stich it back into the disc structure ..... but it is not fast ..... not by a long shot ...

Cheers
