Has anyone ever used this before? I would like to use kwags template because I have saved on average 30% in storage. I have been using dvdx and its internal mpeg encoder and have been very happy so far. I have an apex 1200 and usually encode standard NTSC VCD at 352x240. I tested out a clip that I had already used on a vcd, ran it through tmpg by itself, and used kwags template. The file went from 52 megs to 33! I was happy with the quality and it showed up great on the apex.

Anyone ever use DVDx 2.0 or 1.8 in conjunction with TMPG? I am just looking for tips.

I dont have 5 gigs of free space on my hd, I barely have 1 gig, so thats why I use dvdx. Thanks in advance!

You can try using DVDx as a frameserver directly from the DVD without having to rip. If you have any luck, let me know , because I tried the latest version 2.0 and I couldn't get the frame serving to work. It bombs every time. Also the audio/video go out of sync in almost every movie (NTSC ). Not to mention that the resizing for 352x240 is completely wrong, and you can see artifacts on "panning" scenes.
I don't recommend DVDx. Any version.

Jaymel:

I have a P4 so I use the DVDx p4 version.
I have used DVDx 1.8 by itself using the default encoder and the lsx encoder (Panasonic only works in Pal). I have also frameserved to tmpg and to the panasonic standalone encoder. I have only tried version 2.0 on parts of 2 movies.
It crashed on me a few times. One movie (The Jazz Singer) is encoding using DVDx 2.0 and the frameserve to tmpg as I write this. I mostly use the 2 KVCD templates (1cd and 2 cd) with some variations and get mixed results. Most of my runs are at 704x480.
I will be glad to help if I can.

Just too confirm! This error is in DVDx ?

Are you using the default standalone encoder in DVDx or are you frameserving?
Are you trying to re-use an output file with the same name and its already in use by another app. (ie tmpg or media player)

If in doubt in either case try using another output file name.

If its something else plse give more info as to when this msg is showing up

It works fine by me.
If u need a guide i'am happy to make u one
I dont have a problem with the frame server at al.
It only takes a lot of time, if i'am using DvDx and the frame server with tempgenc and the kvcd plates, it takes me 6 to 8 hour depend on the movie lenght (i have have a P4 2000 MHZ)

I prever to use the new ligos lsx plign 3.5 for DVDx, but with the older 1.7 Version, with gives better resizing, than tne new 2.0 Version, so you get better aspect ratio and quality.
The only thing is that, the 2.0 version is much faster, but the only thing i need is better quality not the speed!!!

For long time, the panasonic mpeg1 encoder was the best for VCD´s but the new ligos encoder is ,a little better i think, because its sharper and a little less makro blocks and its double as fast as the panasonic encoder is.

So if space is not the prority i think you should use, DVDx1.7 with the lsx encoder 3.5 and fit the movie on 2 cd´s, and higher the bitrate to 1300-1400 kb/s.
