Hi, I have a huffy compressed avi file from a capture and would like to convert it to divx5. However virtualdub only lets me use one pass conversion and I would like to use multipass conversion.

Is it possible to use multipass conversion to divx5 on a avi file? Or another way to do it? Thanks

Thanks for the reply kwag, but I don't want a mpeg.

I have a huffy avi and want to make a divx5 avi with multi pass. Unfortunately I can only use single pass with virtualdub, there must be a reason you can't use multipass with avi files i think

You're right
Somehow, I thought you could open your Huffy with Mediator. It only allows MPEG files as input.
Well, how about using XviD CODEC with Vdub, instead of DivX CODEC

That's a good point, I'll give that a try and see how it goes

By the way, I've never used xvid before, are the default settings pretty good, or are there any changes I should make to get the best quality? I've seen some pretty good xvids out there, but the ones I seem to make with the default settings before just as a test seemed a little blurred.

Thanks again kwag

I really can't say which settings are better because I don't do MPEG-4s, but most comments I hear, are that XviD is a better CODEC that DivX

Do you know you can do AVI with TMPGENC

It can handle all avi codecs currently on your PC. Just as Virtualdub.

Go into file menu, "Output to file", and choose AVI

I didn't
That's what I get for not doing AVIs
Now I know, if I ever need to do one

Thanks Phil,
