As 4.7GB is equivalent to 4.38GB, for 1400MB (2 700mb cd's) I should be using 1305 as custom size in CalcuMatic?

I don't think you need that much overhead
I believe DVD overhead is ~25MB, so for 2 CDs, you should use ~1,350

1400 went over 83K, so tried 1316. Went over 16K. Now trying 1300. Seems DVD overhead is pretty high. I guess this is why I target pretty close when I subtract the mp2 size from the custom size of 1400 in CalcuMatic. Must be some ratio in there somewhere.

I'm testing with a 2 hour 16:9 DVD. The CQ ends up in the mid 60's. I want to get this size thing down right in order to put multiple KDVD's on one DVD as well as 2 miniDVD's. I much prefer KDVD quality to Shrink.

With target 1300, produced 2 mpg files, 715K and 702K.

Nicksteel,

About overhead:

For 6 hours of video (A typical KDVD of mine), I have been getting overhead values between 140~180. About the DVD size hell (took me some time to understand):

A DVD has 4 700 000 000 bytes or 4589483 kb or 4482 Mb or 4.38 Mb. This happens because 1 kb has 1024 bytes, 1 Mb has 1024 Kb and so on. But of course, for marketing reasons, manufactures say it's 4.7 Gb which is not accurate.

DVD overhead is challenging. When I want to make miniDVD's it appears I'll have to use 1300 for 2 CD's. When I make DVD's, CalcuMatic's DVD default works fine.

For 2 80 min disks. I find DVD uses a good bit of overhead. I don't know about size with ac3, as I only use mp2. I guess you'll have to use "trial and error" until you get the feel for file sizes using ac3.

Well in CalcuMatic 80min cd is 800meg your setting are for 650 meg

the setting are for video and the ac3 or mp2..

I will try my setting to see if they work. I am trying 1500 meg for 2 cds that should give 100 meg for over head. But MiniDVD need 26 meg per disk for over head..

Let me know how the size works out. I've always had a problem with it.

Well it did fit on 2 cds with a bit of space to spare on cd 1. is they a way to cut mpeg files by size so I can get disk1 and 2 the same size.

But I did get a skiping in the movie and I dont know why I am trying with it now with 1325 and I uninstall TMPGEnc and installed more uptodate verison I hope it works this time..

Also the sound did not work but that was down to me using a beta verison of BeSweet. I got sound encoder to work now.

I am trying with 1325 and 256kbps ac3 5.1 sound.

You say your doing miniDVD with mp2 sound I was reading that not all dvds will play miniDVD with mp2 sound. You can easy do a 128kbps ac3 2.0 sound. I think ac3 encoders do a lot better than mp2 and mp3.
