Haven't tried that. It does work correctly with BBMpeg and MPlex (the BBMpeg derived version ).

I saw in the ffmpeg mailinglist that someone had some problems with muxing too, maybe the fix will take care of things.
I'am no pro, so maybe it's completly irrelevant but in that case it's maybe a good idea to get involved and post a detailed bug report?

I gave up on mplex and are using tcmplex only, it really does a much bether job. (as I said, it's actualy the bbmpeg muxer :)

-f vcd gives no errors and the file plays fine, according to the ffmpeg guys this option only affects the muxer and has nothing to do with the encoding stuff.
I will try it again on a longer movie...
