I'm converting a 16:9 720x480 NSTC source to 16:9 PAL 704x576.
The active video area in the source is 716x360 and I want to resize that to 672 horizontally (before adding borders to bring it to 704x576), but I'm not sure how to calculate the destination height. A straightforward conversion would give 672x338 but my question is does the 338 change because I'm going from 480 to 576 total vertically? Should I resize to 672x406 instead? I mean, if the source video uses 75% of the source resolution vertical space then shouldnt the destination also use 75% of the destination resolution vertical space?
I suspect yes but I could never get my head around aspect ratios properly :) Bad Girv, naughty lazy Girv.
(BTW I know 338 and 406 should really be rounded to multiples of 8 or 16)
Cheers,
/girv
