MPEG-2 with KVCD Matrix?

Well, I'm about to quit trying to make KVCD work with my DVD player.
But I can play if I encode as SVCD and set 3:2 pulldown.

So here is my question... Will MPEG2 use the benefits that the kvcd matrix and gop gives to MPEG1?

While I'm encoding as MPEG2, what should I use to get the best quality (and size)...? kvcd matrix, andreas matrix, default matrix or something else?

Is it worthy to encode MPEG2 at 704x480? Or it would be better to encode at 480x480 with higher bit rate?

Oh man... so many questions... how I wish I could just use the mpeg1 kvcd 704x480...

I have an Apex 1500 and an Apex 1200. I finally settled on using the old 352x480 KVCD template and converting it to mpg2 w/ 3:2 pulldown. Filesize is smaller on 352x480 vs 480x480 and quality is still good. Don't have as good of luck converting the newer templates though. I seem to get flashes of green blocks on the screen from time to time.

What player are you working with??

Use the KDVD templates. Half D1, change the resolution to 480x480 and under the system tab in MPEG settings change the stream type to MPEG-2 Super VideoCD (VBR)

Change the audio from 48hz to 44.1hz as well.

This will give you SVCDs using a valid GOP (Kwag tweaked) and Kwags matrix.

If you want to be DVD compatible, don't alter the template, use as is and you will get a valid DVD stream that is on par with that of SVCD ...

My DVD player is a CCE-2500, but I think the specs are almost like some Apex-1500 that I saw in this forum...
BTW, for me the new plus templates works just fine if I encode as SVCD and 3:2 pulldown.

Much larger than TMPGenc would otherwise produce for SVCD ? No it should be considerably smaller. I would say by at least a third over using standard 2xVBR encoding methods.

You will want to reduce your max bitrate down to about 2250 as SVCD standard can't go much above this.

Well, actually I was thinking if it's larger than the 704x480 new template. I want to put 120+min in 2 CDs.

Hummm... I didn't know that. I saw a lot of 3200...3500 SVCDs around.
Although it's not standard, I will get better quality with 2500 than 2250, won't I?

Of course you'll get better quality with higher bitrates, if your player can support it, then great
