I'm looking to convert MPEG1 & MPEG2 files to KVCD/SKVD easily and am surprised that user templates for TMPGEnc have not been created for easy conversion. The sticky in the forum is also not complete as the original posters images are now not loading. Is there an easy one-step process (ie: TMPGEnc templates?) for converting without the need for script creation in TMPGEnc to KVCD/SKVCD? I'm new, and obviously, not totally adept at "scripting" conversions. I also apologize in advance if this was covered in previous topics, but I just didn't see anything related to this specific task. TIA.

Go on the hompage of kvcd.net. On the left panel you have a link to "tmpgenc optimized templates".

They are all there ! Just take the last KVCDx3 ones and use them in tmpgenc without any script and you will obtain a KVCD. For sure you won't have all the benefits of the usage of a script (smaller file size and better picture) but it's still a KVCD.

Thanks. Wouldn't it be nice to have a sticky to that page on this forum? I think so - heh.

Ok, so a new problem, easily answered I'm sure. I take a SVCD/MPEG2 file and use the SKVCD-352x480-_NTSC_.mcf template, it re-encodes fine, BUT, the encoded file's picture displays a "green bar" at the top and the remainder is in B&W. The MPEG2 is not corrupted and plays fine standalone. Ideas?

Thanks again for the quick reply.

More info is needed on this one.

Where does the green bar and the B&Wness show up? On your standalone only or on your PC? Is the stream already messed up in the Preview Window of TMPGEnc?
It's most likely a Codec problem anyway... Do you have a proper MPEG-2 Codec installed? Can you open the File with DVD2AVI ?

It shows fine in the preview pane of TMPG, the "green bar" is at the top of the encoded video and takes about 1/3 of the screen, while the other 2/3's is the video, but B&W. This is on my PC, I don't want to waste my time burning yet until it's resolved. The SVCD/MPEG2 converting from is NOT corrupted (as I've burned these same MPG's without issue to SVCD previously). I haven't tried DVD2AVI, and I do believe I have the "proper" MPEG2 codec, as I've done SVCD conversions with DVD2SVCD without issues before.

It just finished encoding with the KVCD-CQ-352x480-_NTSCFilm_-PLUS.mcf template and appears to be fine, BUT, I would have liked to keep the quality by using the SKVCD template, ideas?

You try to use old templates. They are less performing then last KVCDx3 ones. The MPEG2 KVCDx3 template is also a "SKVCD" template. Just use it !
(just change the resolution to 352*480 is that is what you need).

Thanks much, the other template seemed to fix the issue.

Another "n00b" question here I guess:

So I have a PAL/MPEG2 and want to convert it to NTSC/SKVCD, what do I need to change to make it display the "widescreen" ratio correctly in the template settings?

TIA, again.

Wouldn't it be nice if the scripts and KVCD's could be incorporated into the same template when loading. This gets so confusing. So what is the point of loading a LBR/ULBR templates if not to set the parameters automaticly. Isn't the point of these templates to put extended minutes (180-360) onto a single CD-R. With the advent of all the AC3 coming now with the avi's its seems futile to even attempt ripping to mp3 and utilizing these templates. I guess I'm just venting here but why can't TMPGEnc just incorporate a AC3 decoder in its program along with various types of scripts you can load for desired size/quality output file?
