You know what? I find CQM and CalcuM so good for DVD>KVCD/KDVD encoding that...
Well how am I going to tell you...they're just too good for me
It just happens that whenever I set CQM to predict (x3 mode) the CQ for a DVD of mine it's just so good at it that...
When the movie has finished encoding with the CQ that CQM gave me, it just doesn't fit my CD because
of the overhead produced by bbMpeg/Mplex/TMPG when I mux the video with the audio.
And that's basically the same with KDVD...
What can I/you/we do about it?

Nope. It's right on the bull of what CQM predicted.
The problem is that after muxing with any of the available utils already mentioned the size of the
movie goes way behond the CD max capacity.
I know I can always overburn but...I just don't feel like that overburning should be the solution.
Haven't you experienced the same yourself?
Or maybe you guys only do OneCD encodings.
Try doing it on a TwoCD encoding because there you will notice it for sure.

Unfortunately I haven't been encoding MPEG1 video. Only MPEG2 for both kvcds and Kdvds.
Using bbMpeg for kvcds, as in your example, I just place program stream type set to SVCD
and change the "forced mux rate" to 0.
Now, using IfoEdit for Kdvds, I just follow vmesquita's guide for switchable subtitles.
But now I'm a bit more worried: don't you guys feel the same problem?

I understand what you're going through. I've never been able to accurately predict the final muxed size of a MPEG2 with CalcuMatic/CWMatic.

I usually use a custom size of 775 as a start, then trial and error. I'm doing several 720x480 tv captures now, reencoding to 480x480 with 160bps audio. I'm trying to arrive at some consistant ratio for avgbitrate using CalcuMatic. If I have any success, I'll post results. The muxing overhead seems to bear no direct relationship to the source.

I also have to change the "forced mux rate" to 0 to avoid errors.

I wish someone could up with something usable.

My final mymovie.m2v file is always less than 0.7% of what CalcuMatic predicted.
And the audio predicted file size is also very accurate in CalcuMatic.
At least with my mymovie.mp2 files.
And I think that Nicksteel has just taken the words out of my mouth.
I think that since CQM and CM just don't compute the overhead produced by the audio and video muxing
thus leaving me with an m2v and an mp2 that are just 1% or 2% bigger than what 2x80Min CD can carry ...
And that's obviously getting me mad.

I even think I can remember once you were telling someone to do the same.
So, what should be my values in bbMpeg or Mplex (I believe the panels are the same for both)

I'm sorry but right now I don't have any project on my harddrive.
Also note that to encode a whole movie my pc takes more than 17hours
Tomorrow I may start a new project on another movie but that will only finish by... Sunday (Santa didn't visit me this year)
By then I can tell you my figures for m2v, mp2 and mpg as well as the figures taken from CM.
