Hi,

I constantly keep trying toget the perfect rip, but I just dont get it.
I'm ripping a 100min movie (Boondock Saints) right now, and I try to get it on one CD. The picture is always blury and blocking in the background. I mean its ok to watch, but i still wanna get a better solution.

I use the latest scripts and different resolution, but it doesnt get better!!
I use tok and the CQ is around 70, that should be enough.

Is it possible that upload some samples to get a hit how it can get??

Thx

Plautzer

Hi plautzer,

If I recall correctly, Boondock Saints is encoded as 4:3, instead of 16:9.
You're probably encoding the picture area that looks black, when in reality its a very dark gray, and it's chewing up your bitrate.
Open your .d2v with TMPEG, and crop the black area completely, so you can find the "Film pixel" area. Then feed those values into Moviestacker, so you get the correct resize add borders. Then you'll be encoding only the film area, and you should get a good picture.
DON"T USE GRIPFIT FOR THIS PARTICULAR MOVIE

By using directshow (bad) or making a little avs script with just "Mpeg2Source("yourd2v.d2v")" (better), or by finding a file called "DVD2AVI.vfp" that is delivered for instance with DVD2SVCD and is a plugin tahat allow TMPGENC to open DVD2AVI 1.76 projects (best)

The usual way via Avisynth's cropping and resizing commands.

Open your d2v (as you did it now) in Tmpg Enc and follow this one:

If you mean "on the macroblocks", the answer is not.
Now the picture produced by each resizer is different (bilinear is a quite too soft, bicubic okay, bicubic precise the best choice and lanczos the one I use because I love very sharp picture).

Be carefull that each optimal script is adapted to the resizer used (I mean that the filter that follow the resize are adapted to what the resizer produce).

I'm stuck,
I croped the top and bottom of the movie (top:104 and bottom:103).
But what now?
Usually, I dont use the moviestacker but I have the 1.1.1 version.
Is that good? I cant find the newer one.
But what do i have to do now?

a) 103 .. is not mod 8 or mod 16! At least crop to mod 8! as you did in case of the 104

b) Sides are ok??? Or which values did you use there??

c) As you already got a postingcount of 92 I assume you already did watch around a bit in this forum. So you'll find the Moviestackertopic where you also can find the Newest Downloadlink.

Then we go further ....

As you said you already cropped, you know how to do it

But! your cropping values should at least be devidable by 8.
104 does, but not 103!

The final resolution does depend on what you wont to create finally.
That means which KVCD size you want to encode finally and therefore you have to choose in Movistackers Destination settings.

At first,
moviestacker says that it doesnt support my avisynth 2.54.
But i guess thats not important, is it?

My second problem is that I cant overwrite the 0 in top border or in left borders, so I wrote it in the final script which I plugged in my script (kwag optimal scripts) and loaded it with tok and encode it.

It still doesnt work with the borders??
What step did i do wrong?

You have to uncheck Use GripFit (crop/resize) from Moviestacker!

And also where you can see the "688x320" in the "Film Pixel" Field there you have to enter your effective moviepixels AFTER cropping.
