Hello ever one,i am very new to this and am getting a bit lost.

I am trying to use ffmpeg (windows version) to open an avi like this :

'ffmpeg -i c:\clip1.avi -b 1150 -s cif -aspect 4:3 c:/vcd1.mpg'

but i keep getting an error saying:

'Unsupported codec (id=9) for input stream #0.1'

encoding from mpeg to mpeg is fine.

Does ffmpeg not support avi input? Any help will be much appreciated.

Thanks.

What is the codec that the avi file is using? Ffmpeg doesn't support all avi codecs.

Be carreful, i use ffmpeg only a couple of time but I think that stream #0.1 is the first _audio_ stream. The video is #0.0.

Thanks for your responses,

You were right Dialhot it was the audio that was the problem.

The audio is ac3 does ffmpeg not suport ac3?

Can some one explain to me how to make ffmpeg output mpeg2 i cant find how to do this anywhere .When i am playing around with it everything is outputed as mpeg1.

Or could you tell me where i can find out what commands there are for ffmpeg ,all i have is the ffmpeg documentation(old i think cause some dont work like '-target vcd' for instense).

Thank you.

this depends on how your ffmpeg version was compiled. Maybe you want to try out this one. This one was used to do wav to ac3 convertig with a gui, but it includes a ffmpeg windows build.

That is the one i am using.

Anyway i have satisfied my curiosity now and must say this is a VERY fast and good quality encoder but sadly with a lot of problems.

So is this encoder dead now other that mencoder/mplayer? or is there still going to people working on it?
It would be such a shame if it is.
