How are you encoding
If you are using CQMatic, then that behaviour is normal.
Please describe your process

That's called "Prediction". And it's the normal behaviour, until it finds the correct CQ value, and then it starts to do a full encode.

You can fix the value of the CQ but it is not recommended as the CQ must be determinated for each movie in order to reach the target filesize (800 MB).

And there is no means to know the time it takes. But D2S stop the tries after #10 even if it hasn't find the correct CQ and run the encoding with the last value found.

Which is a bad practice, as that CQ might (is!) not be very accurate

Hi,
We're sorry but in the end it's all up to your PC specs, avisynth version installed, type of avisynth script loaded, kind of movie (more static/more movement),etc...
With my PC specs, it is usual to wait between 17-20 Hours of encoding (after CQ value have been predicted) for a >100min length movie.
But most of the guys take 4-5 Hours with their latest PCs.
Cheers
