HI
I'm new here. I've got a big problem. I've got a blocky image in high action scenes. I've tried tmpgenc and mencoder me, same problem. I've tried to backup spiderman and the result is horrible. Sometimes there are multicolors blocks around objects. I've tried ma script, and it's the same. The only method that works for me is to encode with virtualdub and ffdshow. I've read that there was some problems with vbv buffer with this. But with this method i haven't got any blocks.
Another thing:i don't know if it's important but in bitrate viewer the green line must be flat or it doesn't have importance. Because with ffdshow i've got a flat curve but not with mencoder. I've got some "explosions" up to 18 or more.
For information my cpu is an athlon xp 2400 and i'm using the good builts.

Did you use tmpgenc wihout filters also.
Maybe you need to aply some filters, in spite of reducing the codification speed.

Its the same problem.Multicolors blocks all over the screen without any filters with tmpgenc. And with mencoder with filters too. It's strange because a month ago i didn't have these problems with mencoder. It seems like a filter problem or a codec problem, i don't know. I've got xvid codec and ffdshow installed. Do i need them?

If you know how to deal with an avs script, just use one (only for load your source) and play it in wmp or any other player. Does multicolor blocks appear?

Depends on your source... Multicolor blocks you say? Your source is not DVD right? If it's XviD or DivX these blocks are most likely already visible in the source at least to a certain extent...

@SILK: Could you manage to upload a small sample of your encoded file, or at least a screenshot of one of the blocky frames?
In fact I can't think of ever seeing "multicolor" blocks before on any of my encodes from DVD.

you need to upload your screenshots/samples to a free-webspace provider. Go to angelfire.com/lycos.com for instance, register for a free account and use an ftp-tool or the html tool of the site to upload your files. Give us the link here, so we can download it!

I also had one time a problem even when using tmpgenc that on my PC everything was running fine and on my standalone VERY big dancing coloured blocks did appear.
- So it would be interesiting if you did encode your source using a wrong fieldorder or something ... is that movie still in a telecined state, means 29.97 or already IVTC'ed to 23.976?
SO put your WHOLE commandline u used for encoding that movie!

Hi SILK,
it happend once to me, and as I didn't know how to explain that, I said they were like "microblocks". But they don't appear along the whole movie, do they?. They just appear in high action scene.
If you still have some bites to waste, try lowering quantizers. How?. As Inc said, post your command and let's see what can be done. Maybe some postprocessing could be of a help. Or maybe you could apply trellis and cbp. Or you could lower lmin. Or... maybe anything else can be done. Let's see.

Hi and thanks for your help.
I've just edited my post with the pics because there was only the image with no blocks that appears. So now it's the ugly one.
The one encoded with ffdshow have no blocks and i've used noise in postprocessing settings.
Here is my command line
2240
of=rawvideo=1
ovc=lavc=1
sws=9
nosound=1
lavcopts=vcodec=mpeg2video:vrc_eq=tex:vmax_b_frame s=2:vrc_maxrate=9800:aspect=%%ASPECT%%:keyint=15:v rc_buf_size=%%VBV%%  reme=2  recmp=2:vstrict=-1:autoaspect=1:scplx_mask=0.3:vqblur=0:mbqmin=1:vq min=1:mbqmin=1:lmin=1:intra_matrix=8,9,12,22,26,27 ,29,34,9,10,14,26,27,29,34,37,12,14,18,27,29,34,37 ,38,22,26,27,31,36,37,38,40,26,27,29,36,39,38,40,4 8,27,29,34,37,38,40,48,58,29,34,37,38,40,48,58,69, 34,37,38,40,48,58,69,79:inter_matrix=16,18,20,22,2 4,26,28,30,18,20,22,24,26,28,30,32,20,22,24,26,28, 30,32,34,22,24,26,30,32,32,34,36,24,26,28,32,34,34 ,36,38,26,28,30,32,34,36,38,40,28,30,32,34,36,38,4 2,42,30,32,34,36,38,40,42,44
ofps=%%FPS%%
I'm in pal so 25 fps.
This happens only in high action scenes.
Thanks for any help

It looks like you do 1pass, did you try 2pass?. It usually doesn't help with this, but...
What filtering combo did you use, DVD one?.
With notch matrix, maybe you can lower de maxrate to 8000, and try lowering lmin to 0.75. You can also try and raise scplx_mask to 0.35.

If that only happens at high action scenes, please meke your pic working well! So I can see them ... or change to another free webspace provider, as I remember LYCOS does give no probs when linking to pictures.
(BTW: Isnt Lycos=angelfire????)

Cant get it loaded!
not by clicking on the link, neither by opening a new window and typing in the adress manually.
So sorry ...
(PS: the first pic which was ok yesterday, I could see, so the issue does not base on my browser or whatever )
