very cool but i can't understand WHY someone encode XVID if he can see only in pc.....maybe from captures(tv sources?)... i don't know,i don't do that! this is the reason of XVID encodes

Thats totally enough to NOT let your system crash, so the issue somewhere else! As I did say: I can even do other things, and in relation to a XP 2000+ my CPU is not a Boing 747 filled up with 98374 octane gazoline

Jorel

I didnt took that personally, I was just confused as to me it seems something strange is going on on your machine.
OR WinExplorer really is tricky in this case!!!
I cant duplicate that as I dropped the usage of IE totally! As I switched to mozilla and soon it will be firefox.

Forgive me if this question is answered already (I might have missed it):

Is there any way of getting PackShot to read sequent VOBs à la DVD2AVI? In that case we could encode directly from the DVD without having to rip it first

Hi audioslave,

You still have to rip it, in order to DeCSS the DVD.
Otherwise, mencoder can't understand the VOBs.

BTW this is not a problem as this operation is not recommanded for you DVD driver.

A DVD driver is not a standalone. They are not supposed to be used more than a couple of hour without any pause.

Using them as reader while you are encoding shorten a lot their lifetime.

New Packshot is released!

Its beta, so please do report bugs, thanx!

The resizing engine of Mencalc is now included, means direct avi/mpeg4 support.
In case of a wanted cropping of the blackborders before (when adding noise on black borders containing sources) please in this beta state do use "commandline only" and do tweak the resizing parameters to your own needings. The final release will contain a "Film Pixel" cropping support where that will be no problem anymore.

http://www.kvcd.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=10915

Read also the included Readme, as Packshot now comes including a codecs.conf file so users just have to install ffvfwmakeavis (if really needed for avs) and put the copy of mencoder.exe into the "packshot" folder, thats it.

PS: Sorry for double post but the bug thread and this one I think where mainly the reason for doing the update.
Thx.

Hi Inc,
already mini-tested (just took a look at .bat files).
BitrateCalculator seems to be working OK.
I just miss film pixel in resizing, but you also miss it .
I see that a different lmin value is applied, depending on... . I think we have to investigate this. I loaded in packshot a movie I have just encoded with lmin=0.5, and I have to re-encode because I get bitrate peaks about 3500 (maxrate set at 2500). I'll lower lmin. PackShot gave me lmin=0.4 (it's bigger than 0.3 you used by default, but still too high for this film).
Looking at the bat file, is clear how to use the "Cut credits" box (introduce movie time in seconds, and from this time on audio and video won't be encoded). And I guess you already explained it somewhere in PackShot thread. Anyway, maybe a tool-tip would be useful to remember how to use it.
And more good things I don't say now, to let the rest congratulate you .

Is there a way to delete the .bat file on completion? I just tried to open my .mp2 file and accidentally clicked on the .bat file and POOF!!!! It was gone! Maybe a checker to see if the file exists then ask for a verification to overwrite or something would be nice. Thanks

Hi ren,

yes, it also happened to me once. And I had to reencode it again .
A way to solve this, instead of deleting the bat file (that can be of a help if you want to reuse it), it could be to use a different name in first pass for the m2v first pass file, and the definite name for the m2v in the second pass. Then it could be deleted the first pass m2v from within the bat file, before the end.

What do you think, Inc?.

Now the real betatesting seems to start

A very good point!
Well Phil asked me if the encoingblabla.bat also could be copied in the target folder. So as it seemed nice I did implementate that.

BUT i Just got my activeFilmPixel based resizer ready (first cropping then resizing etc. --- as whished), means a mini-FitCD or mini-Moviestacker (but own code, based on the logic of the PDF of "Der KARL" and the uwasa.fi reference link) within packshot where you can determine the needed values like Pixelarea size and x y coordinates.

In the next release also the OUTPUT of the first pass will be "/dev/null", means no overwriting of the existing m2v due to "fast reacted" clicking on the .bat again

@ Kwag
Thanks Kwag! Ill watch that link!
