My lasy 4 encodes from divx/xvid to kdvd have been impossible
I extract to an uncompressed wav wiht vdub but the audio is always 1 second less than the video so when i mux its always out of synch.Ive used mpeg vcr an messed with the AV synch but the audio still slowly slips out of near the end.I installed/unistalled all codecs.the audio is in mp3 format and another was ac3

I often have an audio that is up to 5s shorter and never have any synch prob. So your issue isn't there.

Drop your "not very clean" sources. Or perhaps, if you NEVER managed to do a KDVD from a divx, you are doign something wrong but I must have more details on the entire process in this case.

Note: did you try Diko ?

Just to tell you : while I was answering to you, I was doing a 3 SVCD -> 1 KVCD job.

On the end, the audio is unsynch because the original mpa extracted from the 3 mpeg2 files is 3 second shorter than the video stream.

As you can see, the problem does not come from you

I've just converted something and the sound was out of sync. I'm not sure why, cos I converted the video at the right framerate and stuff, and I think I converted the audio properly. Actually, out of 3 full films I've only had one where the audio has stayed in perfect sync. Any idea's why that might be?

I can't say you what you are doing wrong but the ultimate solution is to encode both audio and video together with tmpgenc. Generally the result is in synch.
