Hey guys, you want to laugh a little
Please, be seated, because if you are not, you will fall
I just got a call from Lygos, related to an E-Mail I sent, about embedding their Codec (dll) into an application (The KVCD Encoder).
They ask for $50,000 licensing to start, and then they charge ~$2.00 per copy I sell.
I guess this is out of the question for the KVCD encoder

Hmm,
Maybe we shouldn't discard Lygos so fast...
According to Karl we've had 7 new registered users on the forum, today.
Each registration is worth $2,99.
That means ~$21.
So if we wait.............................................. ........ 6 and a half years Karl will have the needed $50.000 and we can see lygos running in KVCD Encoder
What a bunch of a**holes!!!
They just wanna win it all in one day!...
Anyway I hope you have other options Karl, because this one sucks
posted in a closed thread too

What locked thread
But laugh more guys
I told the guy that if it was possible for me to send a raw AVI "uncompressed", so they could do a little encode for me, becuase they don't have any samples (I wonder why ), but they claim they are the best quality worldwide
So I told him I would put a small sample on a FTP site, and I would send it to them, so they can return a compressed MPEG-2 sample for our evaluation.
Well, I'm going to make a little 5 second or so KDVD MPEG-2 sample from some good action scene, and send it to them, together with the raw file.
But I will insist that the sample MUST match the file size of the sample I am going to do
Let's see how good Ligos Codec is

Anyway, I have tested Lygos stand alone and the Premiere plugin and they're both buggy and look much inferior to Tmpgenc and CCE.

I even tried the old "Berkeley" MPEG sources, but didn't have mush luck.
Actually, I would like to go back to the original MPEG-LA test model sources, the ones that YMPEG used for their Codec, and try to add functionality to it. That will free me from the ffmpeg/mencoder/avcodec sources (licensing issues), and I could actually build a true standalone encoder.
I'm sorry about the time frame I promissed I would have something, but there are more issues that have to be evaluated, other than coding, before I have something out.
But I'll keep everyone posted about new directions about this issue.
Thanks,
-Karl
