Hay, I thought I'd start something like this here. (stead of my other thread)
Anyways..

I've ben collecting lots of price-cut DVDs of old movies (from 80's and 90's
erra, as these were the great days of corney movies and whatnots.

80's and 90's Movies
---------------------------------
* 2.35:1 - 1980 - 1h:45m - 11.07.03 - Dressed to Kill - NEW to list
* 2.35:1 - 10.31.03 - Halloween II -
* 1.85:1 - 1h:33m - 10.25.03 - The Last American Virgin
* 1.85:1 - 1h:33m - 10.25.03 - Once Bitten
* 2.35:1 - 1h:32m - 10.25.03 - Halloween
* 1.85:1 - 1984 - 1h:54m - Body Double
* 1.85:1 - 1990 - 1h:27m - Silbling Rivalry
* 1.85:1 - 1985 - 1h:38m - the Breakfast Club
* 1.85:1 - 1989 - 1h:40m - Say Anything
* 2.35:1 - 1985 - 1h:46m - Real Genius
* 2.35:1 - 1979 - 2h:03m - "10"

I'm looking for more great DVD's from 80s-90s erra, but I'd like to continue
the tradition of buying them in stores, and not on-line (unless absolutly nec)
Yeah, it's more exciting to hunt them down in stores and buy them that way
then on-line (the chicken way out) ..and not to forget some late 70's too.
Yes, I'd like to continue my weekend tradition of DVD/VHS hunting.

.
.
Hay, in addition to those I'm looking for, one comes to mind, w/ Melanie..
Cherry 2000

Feel free to add your own or suggestions too. There are plenty to go around.

yeah ZtR dude,

Cherry 2000 was about a guy who's hump-dull, I mean, robot doll
breaks down, and he goes out on a hunt for one last Cherry 2000 in some
desert. Melanie Grifith (spelling) is in it. She's the chic who becomes his
escort through the treturous desert in that supt up car. Dumbo Shelly Long
is in it. She was the long ago girlfriend, and ended up in the desert w/ this
crazy guy that runs things. Ok, maybe she looks and talks like Shelly Long
(Cheers) but close Anyways..

I've ben busy on too many projects, and my eyes are going sort of cookoo

I seriously gotta take a break and watch some tv or something.

Well, still no Cherry 2000.. but I did get Halloween II, for the
nostalgia experience.

And, it was good watching it, uncut by those ding-dongs that air it every
year.

We really should approach (as someone mentioned earlier regarding cd media) a wholesaler of dvd's , who could carry these older titles we collect and newer titles as well, to work something out {as in have kvcd.net be an affiliate for example}, i'd order from them online if for every purchase i made they kicked back to the site. its late, not sure if im makin sense or not..

time for a corona i think,

hay zTr, dude.. "where's my car ??" hehe hehe..

Yeah, I'm crunchen on an experiment (one of many hehe) on de-Interlace
and stuff like that pal

I'm trying my hand at CCE again, to see what nonsense I get w/ the encode
via my Secret Admirer, oops, I mean, Secret vDeInterlace hehe

Yeah, it's comming along swell. Anyways, I'm kind of pissed off because
I can't believe they did not have any Monster Movie Marathon this weekend,
I mean, Hallow's 'een weekend. Real bummer

Hay, gotta PSR-225GM keyboard though. You gotta hear me play, dah!!
Maybe I'll take a quick clip for ya ta see me play - the mystro!

Other than that, I'm way pooped from exhaustion - - searching and researching
and doing lots of trial-n-error scenarios. But, in the end, it's all worth it,
because this is my (our) hobby.

Hay, zTr...

was really funny ??

I had just nished watching Matrix, and guess what, it was just starting on
FX channel, but in fullscreen. I checked it out real quick, and I was upset
at the quality. It was all chizzled like. Really low bitrate, no thanks to the
Transponder technique they've en poisining us w/ all those extra un-necessary
channels that we'll never get the chance to see anyways. Really. Like, I
got something around 80 channels, but I'm lucky if I watch channel 299/300
for Nick@night. Even if I watched them every night for one hour, how much
money am I poring down the drain when I don't watch all the other 80 odd
channels out there, and for 24 hours, 7 days for 30 days. I mean.. what am
I paying for really ?? I barely watch the thing anyways, and to top it all off,
they have the nerve to cancel me or suspend me for late payments

Sorry, me ranting again. Work was a bummer for me today. My new women
boss and I are every day. I'm at the point of quiting

I'll have to make-up for my work issues w/ some new Nostaglic movie purchases, ..and I also need some new miniDV tapes for my Video Scrap Book
collection.. of events that I shoot and later encode. Yeah, I keep random
footage that I take when ever I have my cam w/ me and something comes
up or something. It's become a hobby of mine, ..this Video Scrapbook of
mine I love it hehe..
Yeah, today was a great day w/ the weather in all. The leaves were dropping
so nice and I was under a beautiful yellow-filled tree of leaves and all I could
think about was my lack of having my cam w/ me for this great shoot to add
to my scrapbook But, last week, I shot some footage of a gray scrurrall
running acrross the sidewalk. He didn't see me, and I snuck up to it. When
it turned around (3 feet in front of me) I stood still, and it didn't run away,
but continued picking up a-corns and things. It was such an experience,
never before exp. and I got it on cam, but I did not have a tripod w/ me..
very shaky. I'll have to see if I still have the tape. Anyways..

Take it easy pal,

Hi vhelp,

I know what you mean. Last week I had Dish Network installed, which is really WAY better quality that DirectTV.
To my surprise, all channels look really good, but I noticed that the picture quality is kind of dull. So I did a comparison of a same channel on my Dish Network, to the same channel on my C-Band 4DTV, and guess
Small dishes SUCK
Now I know what I'm going to do with my new Dish receiver
I agree that the digital channels (Digicypher) on C-Band look as good (or slightly better) that DirectTV or Dish, but the strong analog channels on C-Band ROCK :P
Look at this capture, from an analog channel from satellite T5 (a wild feed).
There is not a single channel on the small dishes that looks like that.
Not to mention that DirectTV transmits at a resolution of 480x480
I think the picture is worth a thousand words:
http://www.kvcd.net/t5.mpg
That's cut out a sample (little over 3 seconds), captured at 704x480.
It has not been re-encoded. That's the way the DMR captures in the highest quality mode.
But look at the quality of the picture, which is amazing for an analog channel. I've yet to see a small dish signal that looks like that
I guess that's the price I have to pay to keep a 10' BUD ( Big Ugly Dish ) on the roof
But there's no way I'm going to change that
Not to mention that the other day we had a big thunderstorm, and Dish Network was "out of lock" all afternoon, while I switched to C-Band and all signals are just as strong as in a sunny day. Rain kills ~11Ghz signals (small dishes), but not ~4Ghz signals (C-Band)

Hi Kwag'owsky..

Yeah, just checked out that clip. Nice quality no noise or chizel like in
my DirecTV sources ie, Matrix movie.

Still, there are some channel's that are good, and although even on
those same channels, not all the sources that are aired are good, but those
that do come out good, are worth it at the time. Anyways, there's no way
I can fit a 10' d me in my living room window. It's bad enough I got a
2' dish in my LR window (inside) but it works for me.

Hmmm,
K, V
the quality of that clip is what i used to get from regular cable.
In the new 'hood im at, there's no digital cable available just yet,,,
I'd be paying an extra $30 a month for some extra stuff.
I capped 24: season 3- EP 1 last week, and it came out real crappy
even after kvcd'in-processing it...
A colleague did the same cap from his FoxTV digital box and it
was mint...way better than mine. or
do i go DirectTV---
decisions??? Im happy with the tiers right now, e.g. speed channel, etc...
but now that i read kwag's post,,,im not sure...

ztr

maybe the answer will lie in buyin some classic dvd's

Hi Zooter and vhelp,

In the states, you don't need a 10' dish to receive a strong signal.
I believe a 7.5' is now standard for US and Canada.
Read here, for a comparison of small dishes to C-Band: http://primefocus.com/cband_compare.html
Also, take a look at this: http://www.espee.net/wildfeeds/
You have to register, but it's free. Then log in, and take a look at all the free stuff you can see without any subscription.
If you want to go even further, take a look at this:
http://www.global-cm.net/mpeg2receivers.html

Those are "Free-To-Air" receivers. So with one of those, you can receive A LOT of MPEG programs.
To give you an idea what's available, go here:
http://www.lyngsat.com/freetv/index.shtml
and select any region you want. That's what's available out there for free

Hay Kwag..

Not to vear too far from even my own thread topic but..

question on those PVR's from the link you provided..
* http://www.global-cm.net/mpeg2receivers.html

Have you given it a go w/ home-footage shot w/ DV cam's ??
..Or even 8mm (I have a bunch of 8mm, but I mostly shoot w/ my TRV-22)

I'm curious what the quality level is on those. yeah, I'm always curious
about new ideas (you always have'em [like me] and I like the sparks)
Yeah, if you've ever gone that route yet. If not, you're missing out on the
fun and the new platoe (spelling) of CAMing and encoding.

Hay Zoots!!
Tomorrow, at lunch, I'm gonna hunt for those DVD's I dying for. Cherry 2000
and a few others.
I really need a TGIF wind-down you know But, I'll take anything
I can find that are oldies from the 80's. I'll let you know whta I come up
w/ .. k pal ?

@ Kwag'ster..
I got Boonstock, ..cause I didn't have it, and you talked so much about it

Couple the above w/ my 5.1 DTS SSS and I'm almost in heaven.
* Durabrand Surround Sound System With DVD Player STS75E

You can check it out over here:

* VHELP's Sample clips...

I wish my satellite was this clean again on ALL channels like the good old
days. This was done w/ my ATI-TV Wonder pci card.

Well, let me go, cause I'm tired as doornail. See you guys later on perhaps.
