CQMatic and CalcuMatic now Open Source! - by Kwag 12/09/2006 @ 08:50

Hello everyone,
It's my pleasure to announce the availability of CQMatic and CalcuMatic as Open Source software Smile
As I don't have time (at this moment) to maintain and expand the programs, I decided to release them to the world so anyone may enhance and expand them.
You need "PureBasic" version 3.x to compile. Visit http://www.purebasic.com for more information.
The license model I chose, is the new and standard "3-clause" BSD style: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BSD_license
This basically permits it's use in any commercial or private programs, and the only requirements is that the copyright notice is maintained on the sources that are released, and any binary release must also attach the notice to any documentation and/or other materials provided with the distribution.
You can read the license text on the program sources.
IP (Intelectual Property) code is not required to be released by any developer who would like to modify the sources and create new versions, unlike the GPL !!*viral*!! effect, which forces every programmer to release every drop of code they create.
So, here you have it Exclamation
CQMatic Sources: http://www.kvcd.net/downloads/CQMatic-1.4.08_src.zip
CalcuMatic Sources : http://www.kvcd.net/downloads/CalcuMatic-1.1.16_src.zip
Have fun, and excuse some of the sloppy code Exclamation Embarassed
Remember that these programs were basically "cooked" overnight, so functionality was selected before code dressing, so feel free to "Dress-it-up" if you like Cool

Announcing PARanoia! - by Karl 10/08/2005 @ 09:53

Thanks to "Incredible" for his wonderful tool PARanoia.
PARanoia lets you create correct targets from your d2v (DVD) sources. AVI file support will follow soon incl. taking into account the individual capture window specs. of diff. capture card brands, to maximize your encoding by properly calculating target aspect ratio, cropping, resizing and adding AviSynth filters. It generates AviSynth scripts, which can be used by TMPGEnc, CCE, HCENC or any other encoder capable of processing AviSynth scripts. The program provides movie preview from .D2V files, so you can see the result immediately when making interactive changes. Even though the program is still in a early development stage, it's already way past ALPHA stage, and completely usefull. You'll LOVE the results! More information and download links in the forum here: http://www.kvcd.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=16158

Announcing Kutter! - by Karl 09/03/2005 @ 15:21

Kutter! is a command line VOB, MPG, M1V and M2V cutter. It will correctly cut at header points, and produce multiple files with numbered extensions. A picture will be more clear. If you type "kutter" at the command line, this is what you'll see:
For example, if I want to cut a file named "k19.m1v" which is in my "C:\download" directory, in chunks of ~500KB, I would type this: kutter c:\download\k19.m1v 500000
And this is what you get:
Created files are tagged with the same extension as the original, and appended ".kutter.X.ttt, where "X" is an incrementing number and "ttt" is either vob, m1v, m2v or mpg.
The program features colorized text, extremely fast processing, and best of all, fully compliant MPEG cut parts.
Also the files produced are stored on the current working directory, so you can process a file like "C:\myvideos\test\program.vob", and the results will be stored on your current directory and not on the source directory.
Future versions will have a GUI with other options, when time permits.
Discussions and download links in the forum area.
Enjoy! -kwag

Excelent explanation by "Incredible" about a logic on how to remove artifacts. - by Karl 05/29/2005 @ 10:48

Build a mask using a low Threshold.
Build a mask using high Threshold.
Subtract the Low- from the High-mask.
And the result is to apply these masks to AviSynth filters to remove the visual artifacts.

CQMatic 1.4.00 Released - by Karl 12/22/2004 @ 23:14

Here's a normal encoding session:
What's new in this version Question
1) Completely re-written prediction engine. Sampling now depends on movie length, so it's now dynamic. You should be able to throw anything at CQMatic, and it will know "how" to encode "whatever" material (PAL/NTSC, etc) Very Happy
2) Prediction is now done in "phases". Then, using a formula and some tricks (don't ask Wink ), it determines the correct target CQ.
3) Prediction is MUCH faster Exclamation On my Pentium 4 @2.8Ghz, I am averaging a full prediction cycle in about 20 to 25 minutes minutes, on a average movie of 1 hour, 45 minutes (on linear range, CQ=~50 to CQ=~85) Below CQ=~50, you all know it takes longer, and I can't do a thing about it Rolling Eyes The first phase, in theory, should be the longest. All subsequent phases uses the previous found CQ, which is closer to final value, instead of starting every phase at CQ=60, as in previous versions. Still, you should count on about 1/5 of your total movie time, for prediction time. Still, it beats the hell out of any multipass encode Mr. Green
4) Removed "Override CQ" option. It's now done automagically Wink
5) Added progress bar, to give you a visual idea where the process is.
Also the X3 option is gone, as it's no longer needed, and I also added a "seconds" field, which was really needed for small encodes.

CQMatic updated to 1.3.10/CalcuMatic updated to 1.1.12 - by Karl 12/17/2004 @ 09:44

Changes to version 1.3.10
- Forced X1 (standard. X3 disabled) prediction, until further optimized with new algorithms I'm studying.
- Bumped version to 1.3.10, reflecting changes that it's now compatible with TMPGEnc Plus 2.524 (2.524.63.181) and should also be compatible with previous 2.5x versions.
- CalcuMatic updated to 1.1.12. Small cosmetic fixes.

Guide to converting your Audio CDs to high quality FLAC lossless format, followed by conversion to Ogg Vorbis format, for portability. - by Karl 11/15/2004 @ 01:17

Goals:Backup your music collection to a high quality, lossless format (FLAC), so you can preserve your original Audio CD tracks in almost half the space required if raw extraction was used. This way, you can store your precious music on CDs or DVDs , and encode to any present or future format. This is the method I use to archive my music, and I currently store all my music in either DVD-R or DVD-RAM. In the future, when new Codecs appear, I can always encode to new formats, because FLAC stores the files at almost half the size as an extracted WAV file. Also, FLAC is a multi-platform Codec, so your files can be read on Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, etc. The step-by-step guide is available in the forum here: http://www.kvcd.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=15136

New site policy - by Karl 10/27/2004 @ 21:54

Starting on November 1'st, KVCD.Net will start doing some forum cleanups from DivX/XviD (MPEG-4) related topics. This site has recently been flooded with just too many DivX related topics, and too many users talking about downloaded DivX movies, and this is not acceptable, and it's also illegal. We try to moderate the forums, but some users just don't read, and we keep getting posts related to this every day. We understand that DivX quality is good, if done properly, and if the sources used for encoding are good, just like DVD backups to KVCD/KDVD. The problem is, that many users expect great quality converting their downloaded, bad quality DivX files, into KVCDs. Then we get complaints that KVCD quality is not good! Well, from now on, we will maintain our highest standards by simply discussing everything about advanced encoding methods and algorithms (as we have always done), which have produced the best KVCD/KDVD encodes, but no DivX related topics. KVCD.Net goals are (and have always been!) to produce the BEST quality in the smallest possible footprint, from your original personal DVDs, or from your high quality TV Receiver/VCR/VHS/Satellite captures. We will continue to focus, and advance our ideas in this directions, as we always have.
Thanks, -Karl

If you access www.kvcd.net/forum and you get the message: "Sorry, but this board is currently unavailable. Please try again later.", it means you are still accesing the old server.
Simply try later, until you get the regular full screen, where you can log in.
I will do a mass E-Mail message to all users later tonight, when I see the domain records pointing to the new server.
Thanks, -Karl

Alparysoft VideoLock for Webcam has been released - by Elena 10/13/2003 @ 02:08

Alparysoft VideoLock for Webcam has been released.
Alparysoft Company specializing in video processing, surveillance security and image analysis systems has launched new product line based on image identification technology. Alparysoft VideoLock for Webcam is a new video surveillance security system recognizing computer owner with help of webcam and adapted for PC users.
The product is designed to provide stealthy protection of the computer and space around it from unauthorized access and inform computer owner about the unsafe events happening at the workplace or home during his/her absence. In comparison to other security systems Alparysoft VideoLock identifies human face on the webcam video and after the recognition analysis either gives or denies user access to the computer. The computer owner can set the warning level wishing to be notified only if an unauthorized person has been detected at the computer, not just any movement.
The program automatically unlocks computer and disables screensaver if the user is recognized as a computer owner. Alparysoft VideoLock does not only protect the computer from unauthorized access, but also from those “who just wanted to look at your screen” during your even short absence taking picture of the intruder with date. The program constantly learns to recognize the computer owner, progressively improving the result.
Alparysoft has released the first version of the product and next versions are expected be functionally enriched providing multiple user access (recognizing several people), notification of the computer owner about unauthorized intrusion by e-mail or sms with picture or video of the event, etc. So far webcam owners can be also interested in Alparysoft HandsFree Screensaver which removes screensaver reacting to user presence.

Problem logging in the forum - by Karl 10/10/2003 @ 05:04

If anyone had problems logging in the forum, it was caused because you had selected a "Theme" other than the default "SubSilver".
When we transfered the KVCD.Net forums to our new provider, we actually made a complete new installation of the latest version of the forum software. This only includes the default "SubSilver" theme.
So anyone who had another theme, would cause an error when trying to log in. We have fixed the problem, and everyone should be able to log in, and we have set the theme to "SubSilver" as default. It's the only theme available at this moment.
Thanks, -kwag

DVD Plus Identifier 2.4 - by jorel 10/03/2003 @ 05:11

http://www.headliner.nl/headliner.ph...&abbr=betanews
VD+R and DVD+RW discs. The ADIP contains a variety of parameters such as disc manufacturing information and supported write speeds. All this information is especially useful for uniquely identifying discs when comparing the quality of different discs. Since the packaging of a disc is not a reliable way of identifying it (e.g. different brands can still have the same manufacturer and some discs don't even have any labeling whatsoever). It now offers a 100% reliable method to distinguish between discs. free.

New TMPGEnc Plus 2.521 (2.521.58.169) - by Karl 09/26/2003 @ 13:12

1] The new version of "CRI sofdec MPEG decoder" is included. Now, it is possible to open a maximum of 20 sequences instead of 8.
[2] In the project wizzard, for the setting concerning the bitrate, the file size in MB will be shown instead of the duration for "CD-R 74min (VCD/SVCD)" and for"CD-R 80min (VCD/SVCD)".
[3] When error occurs during "Prefetch Video", the details will be shown.
[4] When using "DirectShow Multimedia Reader", from now on only Linear PCM, 8/16 bit, 1/2 will be accepted for the audio input.
Fixed
[1] When "CRI sofdec MPEG decoder" was chosen in the VFAPI plugin, errors could occur to open sequence files via "DirectShow Multimedia File Reader"
[2] Problem occuring when using an external MP2/MP3 encoder. For certain settings, the CRC value or the error protection could be changed .
[3] When the audio was re-sampled in high quality mode, if the input was monoral, errors could occur.
[4] During the encoding, some "Drag and drop" files could be accepted from the Explorer.

kvcd manual predictor v1.1 by irshliquor (Spread Sheet) - by Karl 09/06/2003 @ 21:53

kvcd_manual_predictor_v1.1_by_irshliquor.xls
Use this spreadsheet for manual prediction of your kvcd encodes. Source total is the total amount of seconds in the source that you are encoding. Sample total is the amount of seconds created by your sample encode. Audio file size is the size of the separate audio file that you have encoded prior to prediction. Video budget is the optimal file size needed to create a kvcd as close to 800mb as possible (this amount will pack a 700mb cd to it's limit. To reach optimal cq, you will want to compare the target sample size with the file size created by your prediction encode and adjust your cq in tmpegenc up and down accordingly until you are very close to this number but not over. Happy encoding!

ffmpegX 0.0.8b released. - by Karl 09/06/2003 @ 18:23

Added super-fast DVD > DVD4GB compression tool (registered version). Twice as fast than dvd2one, it uses the M2VRequantiser engine (with kind authorization from Metakine.com), achieving compression of a VOB file larger than 4GB into 4GB without reencoding. To use this tool, simply choose the non-encrypted source VOB file in the first Browse.. field, select the AC3 audio track number to keep in the pulldown menu, and click the DVD > DVD4 button. The output of this tool is a DVD folder ready to burn with Toast in DVD mode. For now only AC3 audio tracks are supported. (If you select a non-existent audio track or a track which is not in AC3 format, the process will stop with the error "Unable to read filename.ac3").
The "Mux as.." and "Author" tools now use dvdauthor instead of ifogen/tocgen for better compliance of VIDEO_TS folders and proper handling of AC3 audio tracks.
