Because I own this dvd player, I've done some tests to find out the resolutions it supports. Using a 30 second sample captured from tv at 704x576 as the source for all clips. Resizing is done via simple avs scripts
containing LegalClip, GripFit and FluxSmooth. For encoding I used the default settings for the KVCDx3 MPEG-1 / MPEG-2 templates.

I've created clips for all possible combinations of the following options:
Resolution: 352x288, 352x576, 480x576, 528x576, 544x576, 704x576
Encoding: MPEG-1, MPEG-2
Multiplexed: VCD(vbr), SVCD

Burned these 24 clips once as VCD and once as SVCD using VCDEasy and played in my dvd player I found the following working combis:
352x576, MPEG-1, Mux:VCD, Burn:VCD
352x576, MPEG-2, Mux:SVCD, Burn:SVCD
480x576, MPEG-1, Mux:SVCD, Burn:SVCD
480x576, MPEG-2, Mux:SVCD, Burn:SVCD
704x576, MPEG-1, Mux:SVCD, Burn:SVCD
704x576, MPEG-2, Mux:SVCD, Burn:SVCD

The question is, which of these working combinations would you use to archive dvd rips and tv captures?

Thx.
Holger

Hi Holger,

Use the resolution closest to your broadcast resolution. For NTSC, I would use KVCDx3 (528x480 ), because it's the closest to the one used in NTSC broadcast. Not sure what is the PAL broadcast resolution, but I think it's close to that. So 528x576 would be ideal for PAL TV captures.
