The pioneer dv-444 doesn't like low bitrates. I mean bitrates less than 700kb. But when I change the bitrate up to 700 I will get large filesizes.

Is there a way to get small output files, which can be player with the pioneer dv-444? Without decreasing the CQ to a minimum.

G'day Jack
I have the 344 and have the same prob, your options are to encode in mpeg2 or burn the mpeg1 file as svcd this will fix the audio problem at low bitrates.

I used the SKVCD MPEG2 Template to encode the movie "Red Planet". I just have changed the output width to 480.

I've done the width changing because my Pioneer didn't play the file correctly. The width only fit 2/3 of my TV.

With the resolution of 480x576 (exact SVCD) I don't such a problem. I changed the min Bitrate to 500, too, because with lower Bitrates the encoding log had a few "underflows". I also changed the VBV Buffer to 64.

The result is okay for me, but I read that the KVCDx3 template were better quality.

still to do:
Encode to MPEG1 with kvcdx3 and burn it as SVCD (don't work so far for me)

What did I wrong with burning a MPEG1 File as SVCD?

I didn't work for me so far to burn a mpeg1 file as a svcd. How Do I get this working?

I have tried:
-start nero
-select svcd
-uncheck compliances
-load mpeg1 file
-burn

the cdr didn't play in the pioneer dv-444.

What can I do? Is it surely possible to get this working with the pioneer dv-444? I read that it works with the dv-343 and so on but it's not exactly the same player.

I hope someone tells me good news!

I´ve also problems with KVCD-Templates and my Pioneer DV444.

Have tried different Min-Bitrates, but I think about 650kBit is the absolute minimum (perhaps 700).

I have problems too when I try to make a KVCD with mpeg1 (you can mux it with bbmpeg as SVCD).
I got the best results when using a template with mpeg2, but the default vbv of 40 seems rather low to me...?

Update:
Last time I tried to make a VCD (KVCDx3 MPEG1, muxed as VCD, burned as VCD) worked very good (min. Bitrate = 650).
But with VCD you can only use one Stereo-Audio-Stream (I wanted to use 2).
So I had to muxe as SVCD and burne as SVCD and I lowered the Audio-Bitrate for both streams (from 160+160 to 128+12 which, I think, helped a lot. The Audio-Quality is not too bad (made with BeSweet).
