Just wanted to let everyone know that I have used the KDVD Half D1 template with minor changes and it works on my standalone Philips DVD711. Did not have to remux or spend time doing anything else like test clips of different settings!

Changes were -

Encode mode to non-interlace instead of the 3.2 pulldown which changed framerate to 23.976 - the internal 29.97 was causing audio out of sync in WMP before even putting on disc.

Changed 16.9 display to 4.3 (never used 16.9 before)

Audio to 44,100 - also changed to 128 in hopes of fitting on one disk but just missed, final size was 876mb, will change back to 192 for next movie.

I also encode with video arrange method set at center keep aspect ratio.

Hope this helps anyone who has the same dvd player! For some odd reason, it like's mpeg2 (svcd) better!

Incase anyone is wondering it was a downloaded avi dvd rip of Pitch Black, 1hr and 46min, done encoding in 1hr and 52min with the kwagman's great template! I know the templates are made for straight rips but I am learning with downloaded movies for now! The quality is awsome for a downloaded movie (wish I could post a clip)!

Hi oliefranco:

Download the 352x240 sample under the "PLUS" templates http://www.kvcd.net/dvd-models.html and burn it on a CD-RW. That's the best way to see if your player works. Many players woks fine at 352x240, so you get the advantage of "long play time" with the KVCD templates

Hey kwag,

Some of the problems with kvcd templates are relational with the sound.
I had the sound skipping problem, but the video was OK.
Wouldn't be good if the samples (for burning tests) have audio too?

Regards,

OK! Finally started ripping my own dvd's instead of downloading movies and having all the headaches. So to pass on a little information incase no one has tried yet - the KVCDx3 Mpeg2 NTSCfilm template works like a charm in Phillips DVD 711. Sorry Kwag, tried all the mpeg 1's and cant get them to stop jerking, even lowering the bitrate! Mpeg 2 plays the best! One question though, I have to change one thing on the template - Under System tab in the settings I have to change from Program to Super VCD! Any chance someone can inform me what the difference is?

By the way Kwag, thanks for finally creating an mpeg 2 template!!!

Beautiful
