The problem is that for that particular movie, you can even raise the CQ to 100, and you will still be under prediction :D. That's KVCD's matrix working in all it's glory :!:

If that is the case, then you had to encode as:
GripCrop(720, 480, dest_anamorphic=False)
Then it will look correct :)

If you play back the mpeg you created in WinDVD, it will look taller,...

If you're using GripFit, you set this to "Full Screen". Not "Full Screen (Keep Aspect)", because GripFit takes care of the correct input aspect.

Yes, but source_anamorphic=true should already be the default detected by GripCrop. So you shouldn't need to specify it.
