Hi TLP,
Welcome to the forums
Are you sure the subs file you are using is the correct format that winsubmux will be able to read?
Meaning, is that a *.sub file with a lot of *.bmp files with the subtitle pictures?
Have you created that set of *.sub/*.bmp files yourself with subrip tool?
In subrip did you choose philips kind of sub and removed the header in the *.sub file?
Have you read information in this or other forum regarding subs yet?
Cheers

Sorry buddy.
I don't know subtitle workshop that well.
Can it take an *.srt text file and "render" it to a lot of *.bmp files and one *.sub text file?
Meaning, Subt. workshop can't create the bmp files forget it.
You'll end up with a nice *.sub file that has the subtitles in text format but you don't have the pictures.
And WinSubMux only works with *.bmp pictures.
Yes, sir! You'll have to find a tool to take the text sub and convert it to image.
The problem is I don't recall of seeing any tool capable of doing that.
If Subt. Workshop can do it then it's a problem with the *.sub file.
Open the *.sub file with notepad and check for any English readable text.
Back up the *.sub file and remove the text from the file leaving only the lines that mention the time at which each sub will be used.
Now try it again with WinSubMux.
Cheers

Search for MaestroSBT and you will have that tool.
You need to convert subtitles to ssa format, do it with Subtitle Workshop.
The take MaestroSBT and do bmp subtitles.
At last, take WinSubMux and multiplex your subtitles with your movie.

You can't see selectables subtitles multiplexed with your mpeg file in a PC, just burn a CD-RW as SVCD, and play it in your standalone.
I heard VLC player it is able to show these subtitles, but I don't tried it.
For DVD, subtitles issue are quite different, and don't work with this method at all.

WinSubMux multiplex bmp subtitles with your mpeg file.
Then, the only thing that you need to burn it, it is mpeg file itself.
Take your mpeg file and burn as svcd in a CD-RW for your tests.

When new SVCD page popup, you need to uncheck "make svcd according to standard" or something like this.
Nero will take your mpeg file without reencode it.
But if you still having problems burn it with vcdeasy.

You can fix it with VCDEasy, tools, mpeg tools, cdxa2mpeg.
