Hello

I wish to transfer a number of Video8 tapes recorded using an XR-enabled Sony CCD-TR427E. I would like to transfer the tapes at the highest possible quality and so I am considering purchasing either a Sony Hi8 or Digital8 camcorder with S-Video output. However, I am concerned that the extended resolution of the tapes will be lost if played back by a non-XR camcorder.

Firstly, can anyone confirm that a backwards-compatible Sony Hi8 XR camcorder can play back Video8 XR tapes with XR enabled?

Secondly, if this is the case, can anyone confirm that I would require a Sony Hi8 XR camcorder in order to preserve XR during the transfer and a Digital8 camcorder would not be suitable? Alternatively, does anyone know if backwards-compatible Digital8 camcorders support Video8 XR?

Many thanks
